Tank + High Waisted striped Palozzo Pants + Tied Sandals

On of my fav combos for any weather.

Tight top + wide leg pants.

It can be varied in so many ways!  In warmer weather add sandals, in colder weather…booties and a jacket.

On vacation, it’s so easy to pack a bunch of tanks and loose fitting pants!

And…that’s what I did!I hadn’t taken pictures for the first 4 days of our vacation.  I was so OVER my camera with my workload leading up to our vacation that I needed a break.  But…I knew I’d regret not taking pictures, so I busted out the tripod outside of our room.

We didn’t take these pictures until after the sun had set…

The light was dreamy though! Not going to be able to do this much longer!!
Meanwhile…people coming down our walkway always….

Don’t mind us!

On me…

Tank- Feel the Piece (eBay)
Sandals- Koolaburra “Alexa” (eBay)
On Maya…
Romper- Art Room via Target (thrifted)
Keeping it Real…
Yeah, when you take pictures in the walkway in front of your room…people walk by.
But…the timer keeps going, so….carry on!!
Hahaha. Maya-
“What’s that dance you did in the olden days?”
Well…not MY olden days, but…my parents, yes!

Adding Edge to a Preppy Look…

My mood totally changes with how I want to dress…boho, edgy, rock, grunge…

The one look I’m not that comfortable in is preppy. I feel totally out of place. 🙈 BUT…add a studded belt, and some funky cut out platforms, and I feel ok. 🤣

This might also be in the running for Thanksgiving! And…both of our entire outfits are thrifted or from Ebay 🙌🏻🤑

Also, to keep this post extra disjointed and random 😂 I’m super thankful for a week off with this sweet nugget. ❤️❤️❤️ I may be having to squeeze work in here and there, but getting to hang with her all day is pretty awesome.

Some pics we took from the other day’s AMAZING golden hour ✨💫 (at 3:30 😂)  Mom…spread your arms out wide like you’re flying… I KNEW what she meant, but…I mean.  I had to.Me once again not realizing where I need to be and dancing out of the frame…

OR…creative crop?!This face…

BUT…that light!!!
As the sun went down, I switched angles…

That golden light!!!

And…Maya off playing with my phone that she found in my bag ;} Maya is actually wearing boys jeans.  I am not afraid to buy from the boys section when thrifting!  Roll them up, and they are super cute and comfy boyfriend jeans! LOOOOOVE this next one! A glimpse into the future tween and teen years… BUT THEN… My same goofy girl that just wants to run in for a hug! and I want to eat her up.So….I took a picture of Maya and then my camera went wonky.  It would take a picture, but wouldn’t show me what it took.

Now…I have a very nice camera (not bragging, it’s my job, and it was a gift from my parents), so when it goes wonky and won’t take pics, I freak out!

But…in my test shots, it took this.  I didn’t have it on manual, so…weird.

YET…I LOVE IT!

And, love it even more, because my camera is back to normal!!  NO idea if I inadvertently hit a button but…PHEW!

On me…

Sweater- 7 FAM (eBay, similar here)
Top- Calypso St Barths (eBay, similar here)
Shoes- Summit by White Mountain “Brody” (thrifted for $3.75!)

Keeping it Real…
Trying soooooo hard to keep a straight face 🙂
And failing 🙂 She loooooves to play with my phone. It’s actually fun for me to go back and look at all the pictures and videos she’s taken on my phone!  I complain about it and tell her NOT to…but…I secretly like it later.
🙂
The trigger on the top of my camera fell off, so she was like “Uh oh…no more pictures!”

Vintage Tweed Jacket + High Waisted Crop Raw Hem Flares + Sheepskin Lined Clogs

Well, we are officially in the cold weather, and I’m thinking about Thanksgiving outfits.

We have a pretty laid back casual Thanksgiving. We usually host, and I’m usually still cooking/cleaning/prepping until people start showing up. 😏

SO…I have to be comfy. This honestly might be what I end up wearing.

Sweater (I gotta try, right? 😜) + High Waisted Jeans (to hold in my overstuffed tummy 🙈🐷) + Warm sheepskin lined clogs (comfort, cozy, and cute-the 3 c’s! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻)

I’m determined to shoot a few more options up until then, so I’m not frantically deciding the afternoon of… I’ve realized that I’ve photographed these jeans repeatedly (ok, not sure I’ve posted them repeatedly yet, but they are coming!!)

…but they are SO comfy and so flattering, SO… 🙂

On me…

Jacket- Vintage (similar here and less expensive here)
Sweater- Acrobat
Jeans- 3×1 (ebay)
Clogs- Ugg “Kalie” clog (ebay, sold out)
Keeping it Real…
When it’s just me, I don’t have as many outtakes.  And that’s only because I literally took 5 minutes from the first to the last shot.

Party Dresses on the Beach at Sunset…

A little over a month ago, Maya and I participated in a photo challenge put on by Red Tricycle and Disney Junior.  I posted one of our entries along with a quick chia pudding recipe here.

We didn’t win, but we sure did have fun!  We ended up knocking out 3 days worth of challenges in this one shoot, because…as fun as it was.  It took time!  And time is a hot commodity these days.  The best part was that we were doing it together though!  And Maya was excited about it-YES!

We were both excited about the “Elegant Ensemble” challenge.

Party dress?  Count us IN!

Looooove this next one! Another day was “Fancy Fingernails”

This was super fun!  Normally I go get manicures with just my mom, but I asked Maya if she wanted to come with us, and she did!  She was so serious when they were doing her nails.  And of course…she picked FOUR colors haha.

Blue and white on one hand…silver and gold on the other.  🙂

Maya on a rock…is her comfort zone…OMG.  This is hands down my new favorite picture of Maya!

SO HER!! And yet…this is also so her.

“I hate pictures!  Oh, but how about I nail this pose….”

😉

I swear these were ALL HER.

All I said was, “Can I get a picture of you standing on that rock?” Then…we got some together again as the sun was fully down.

These were to showcase our “Unique Updos”

I didn’t get a good picture of Maya’s (shown later in a phone pic in the “keeping it real” section!), but her’s was braided all along the back and then a braid bun.  She had been asking me to do her hair that way for a WHILE, so I finally tackled it.  She was VERY specific!

On me…

Belt- Vintage
On Maya…
Dress- Fleurisse “Samantha” (eBay for$3.50-retail $245!!!)
Shoes- Seychelles (thrifted, but similar here)
Keeping it Real…
I was a liiiiiittle nervous that I was putting too much time/thought into this shoot.  I kid you not, the more time and thought I put into shoots, the more likely it is to go to shit!
So…I made sure to leave with PLENTY of time to catch the sunset.  I picked a spot that usually isn’t very popular, but 10 min after we got there a family of SIX comes down.  Not only would they be in our shots I had set up, but of course Maya wanted to play with them!
We flipped it around and shot the other way… But, it’s a lot harder to focus when things are heavily backlit…
I messed up the focus on the first round of shots!
I DID NOT GIVE UP THOUGH!  hahaha.
And finally the family left after the sun had gone down.  And…we got the amazing shots on this rock!  But not before…
And…here’s the picture I actually took with my phone as I finished Maya’s hair.
SO glad I did!
And I’m only a little bummed I didn’t get a picture of it on the beach, but…whatever!  I got WAY
more than I expected to get!

Happy Mother’s Day to me! | 2018

I don’t really want a big fanfare for my birthday or Mother’s Day.   Really, I want a hall pass on some of the day to day duties (namely DINNER!) and I want pictures-duh.

It’s what my mom and I ask for every year, and I’m SO glad I have them to look back on!!

If you want, you can look back on 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 part one and two (lucky year!), and 2017.

And…I’ll admit.  This next shot wasn’t just of me haha.

The remote was going crazy and firing off never ending shots until we turned the camera off!  Needless to say, there are a LOT of outtakes.  And…some of Maya and the Huz next to me with questionable looks on their face :).  But, since I didn’t get a chance to take a pic of just my outfit…this will have to suffice 😉 What to say about this sweet nugget…

While she challenges my patience, she also brings me so much joy, love, and pride every single day!

I am one lucky mama.
And…twinning is always winning! Love these next few!!!

BUT…just wait for the outtakes at the end…
My new favorite of the three of us!! And…to my amazing mom and friend…

Maya and I are both SO lucky to have you in our lives!  Even luckier that it’s in our daily lives!! I can’t even… Again….NEW FAVORITE!
Funny story.  I cropped myself out of this shot because I was frantically running towards the camera on the tripod that was going CRAZY taking pics!  Maya’s face though….WORTH IT! All the heart eyes… Pretty much the best reality of our group shot attempts… But then we got this!! And this, so…I’ll take it all! And then…letting her do what she loves to do.

Which, is what I love to capture, so…win WIN!

On me…

Dress- Corey Lynn Calter (eBay for $14!!, LOVING this midi version!)
Clogs- Sven “Ankle Wrap Strap”C/O
On Maya…
Dress- (thrifted, but similar here)
Keeping it Real…
I thought of doing an entire post of our outtakes, but…let’s be honest.  I don’t even have time
to blog REAL posts, so…here are some of the best ones.  There are more!
SO…just know…as my mom and I walked away, we thought…
“I’m sure we got one or two…”
And of COURSE we did.  BUT…, it wasn’t all super smiley perfectness…
AND, I really could have posted twice as many outtakes, BUT, I also could have posted twice as
many shots that I love too!  I guess it’s all about balance…and…reality. 🙂
This first one.  Maya probably telling my parents she doesn’t want to take pictures.  And one of the many shots with the shutter firing when it wasn’t supposed to!
Hahaha.  Yes, by butt as a try to stop the shutter AGAIN, and Maya picking her nose…as she does ALL THE TIME. Licking me….as she does ALL THE TIME 😉
Me trying to wrestle her to NOT lick me… Maya giving herself a hickey that you can STILL see 3 days later…I love that I caught the remote being thrown in mid air.  I’d had it with it’s craziness!
Maya probably explaining to me how I can fix it 🙂
AND….any guesses what I’m about to say here?? 🙂
Even with all these, I’m so grateful for ALL these images, and feel totally thankful for my role as
a mama to Maya and daughter to my amazing mom!
Most pictures taken with a shutter release and tripod.  Or taken by me, my mom, and my dad!

Fancy Dresses on a windy beach…

One thing we’ve had LOTS of lately, is windy days!!

I’ve been wanting to get dressed up and play with the wind, and we finally did it the other day.  Maya LOVES to dress up, so that was an easy sell.  It was pretty cold though, so layers were key.

I totally underestimate the wind and which direction we should be facing.  I thought it would be better to have the wind at our fronts, but that just pushed my dress in all kinds of unflattering areas!

This one totally cracks me up though, and thankfully she’s hiding me-haha!I took a little video of Maya running around too… (click to view) Loooooove this next one! I messed up the focus on this next one.  It’s harder to lock in the focus on my tiny little focus stand when the camera is farther away from the tripod…

Soooooo, I just did a creative blur, and called it an “artisic shot” haha.

I actually really like it!

On me…

Jacket- Doma (old, similar here)
Belt- Linea Pelle (Old, similar here)
Boots- Circa Joan & David (thrifted, similar here)
On Maya…
Jacket- Zara Kids (thrifted, but similar here)
Sweater- CrewCuts by J Crew (thrifted, but similar here)
Shoes- Unlisted “Totally Mine” (thrifted, but similar here)
Keeping it Real…
I tried to get an image of my super fun HANDMADE earrings/necklace, but the wind was obviously not cooperating!
So…I came back and took a pic in front of my house.  Of COURSE my neighbor came by when I was taking them-as they always do!
Today she’s doing a buy 2 get 1 free sale!  Now that’s fate!  SO….check out her amazing designs!
I aaaaaaalmost posted an image that showed just how badly the wind was blowing my dress onto me, but just couldn’t.
You’re welcome!
Because….it wasn’t pretty-haha.
Her face in this next one… 🙂
And another video we took “I just want to go in the car now mom!” haha.

Leather Jacket + Cashmere Button Back Sweater | Night out

As we head into the holiday season, it’s time to think about more outfits that can take you from day to night.

There are always a bunch of semi casual events over the holidays.  Whether it’s drinks with friends, or a holiday party at someone’s home.  It’s hard to know just how dressed up you should get!  My go to is a cashmere sweater, black pants, and booties.  Cashmere can be dressed up or down, and is soooooo comfy.  If someone was wearing a dress, I’d totally feel fine being in this.  Conversely, if some guests were just in plain jeans and a top, I wouldn’t feel too dressed up.  It’s the perfect middle of the road outfit, in my opinion.

On Monday I posted a “day version” of this outfit that simply swapped out the heeled booties for lower heel combat boots.

I also love the wide scoop neck that can be worn off the shoulder if you want!

or…pulled up for a more conservative look!
Love the back, of course 😉 I actually took the above shots AND the casual ones of just me in from Monday’s post in SIX MINUTES before I had to race to pick Maya up from school.  haha!

I came back to this spot with her right after school so I could get some of us together.  I actually forgot to post those with Monday’s post!  SO glad I did a follow up post, because I LOVE these shots!!! And, yes, I danced right out of the frame again… 🙂 On me…

Jacket- Doma (old, similar here)
Sweater- Feel the Piece  (eBay)
Jeans- DL1961 “Emma” in Riker (thrifted)
Boots- El Naturalista Duna N528 (thrifted for $7!!)

This path is on a VERY busy street near where I live.  A woman had walked by when I was setting up and we chatted.  Then….she drove by and waved.  Nope, didn’t feel like a nerd at ALL!!
haha. 🙂

Lean in, lean out

Once upon a time, about three years ago.. a dear friend named Bonnie introduced Lauren and I. Bonnie is one of those fabulous people who everyone adores.. she also knows a lot of people and has this amazing super power in connecting people.

Lauren was(is) a photographer and fashionista and I was a fashionista wanna-be and creative person! I was pregnant with my son at the time and Lauren did a pregnancy photoshoot for me and helped put together outfits. She had (has) this amazing collection of clothes, shoes, accessories.. all specially curated and found at thrift and consignment shops. (Lauren’s super power is finding diamonds in the thrift shopping rough).

Anyway, we became friends (because Lauren is also fabulous!) and I suggested she start a fashion blog. I tried to convince her the world needed to see her unique and timeless style and be inspired. She said she would think about it if I would do the blog too.. and so it started and evolved and we created Dit-Elle a fashion, food, lifestyle mommy blog.. in attempts to inspire other busy moms. We’re both introverts so it felt a little awkward at first just putting ourselves out there in this blog and on social channels, but it took off.

Lauren did most of the fashion posts and I did most of the food posts. I love food photography and wanted to build a collection of my favorite, true and tried recipes. I was also gluten free and dealing with stomach pains.. and wanted an arsenal of recipes I could refer back to anytime, a go-to cookbook. When I made a new dish (and if it was good!), I’d immediately put it on a fancy plate, place it by my kitchen window, and with one kid on my hip, the other playing on the floor, snap a bunch of photos, hoping to get at least one good one! And then I blogged those food photos twice a week when the kids were asleep.. sometimes I would do posts on wellness, health, gluten free or paleo living, food allergies and other tips and tricks. On occasion Lauren would talk me into doing a fashion post. We rarely saw each other, but we alternated fashion and food posts to create a rich collection of inspiration for our readers and for ourselves!

This past fall.. it seems like life caught up to me and I had to stop blogging. I work full-time outside of the home in a very demanding job and industry. Then I have that other full-time job of raising two kids which I think is actually the more demanding job (and kudos to all those moms who do that full-time because it truly is a full-time, 24×7 job!). For me, juggling the office job and home job provided a kind of balance. I love (most of the time) going to an office and working on demanding projects with intense people.. success was always defined and I felt like I was growing and doing great things. Raising two small kids was very hard. Everyone says “enjoy it, because those toddler years are so fleeting, they go by so fast..” but for me, every day was slow and tough and difficult. And people don’t talk about that. And when midnight rolled around, and the house was finally quiet, and I was still amped up from getting the kids to bed (feeding and bedtime in the zoo!) and then perhaps some “fire drill” project that had come my way from work.. I would blog. And it would bring me some peace and quiet and space for my creative energy.

Anyway, there you go.. which brings me to now. My kids are  demanding attention from me in a different way.. Ava is in kindergarten and Anders is a little 3 year old terror (a super cute one, but still trying to tear the house down at every opportunity). I rarely cook and am thankful for food services like Munchery (read my post about “Not Doing It All” here). When I’m home with them, I want to give my kids undivided attention. I want to take care of my body (hot yoga, walking the dog, sleep..). And on that topic, after years of a huge sleep deficit I am now enjoying finally sleeping through the night on a regular basis (wahooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!).

Sometimes you have to lean in to what inspires you and gives you energy. And sometimes you have to lean out. Right now I have to lean out. And take a break from blogging.

My philosophy has always been this: every parent is different, every kid is different, every family situation is different.. you simply have to find what works for you at that moment in time! And hopefully have some fun, and laugh at yourself a bit along the way! 🙂 I will not be blogging much this year but if I do make something interesting, it will find its way here! 🙂

Happy happy 2017! Wishing you a wonderful year ahead! 🙂

One of our family goals is to spend more time outdoors and less time in front of screens (because we do a lot of that for work!). Here the huz, Ava and Anders and I on a fall hike on Crystal Mountain! 🙂

Little White Dress…Day to night (Night)

I showed this dress on Monday as an every day wear, but honestly…it begs to be worn out!!

All the little details…kill me!  Oddly, when I got home, I swear the attached slip shrank like 4 inches!!!  I don’t remember it being so short in the store, so I added another slip underneath for coverage!
