Faux leather leggings? I’m not sure I’m sold…

Do you ever have a trend/article of clothing that you really want to work, but for some reason you can’t make it?  Well, that’s how I feel about my faux leather leggings.  I feel weird even typing that out.  Am I too old for faux leather leggings?  Say no!!! 😦  Alas…I might be.

I didn’t even blog the first attempt, it was so bad, albeit COMFORTABLE.  At first I blamed it on the sweater.  I keep trying THAT too, and don’t like the deep V!  Grrr, two wrongs obviously don’t make a right!  Anywho, I realized I shouldn’t hide my “misses”.  So, here it is-first attempt. BlogFauxLeatherLeggingsSweater-5Did I mention how comfortable they are?  So…I tried them again.  This time I chose a different sweater…. Not 100% sold on this outfit either, but I do like it better than the first try.Blog Black HM Sweater Faux Leather Leggings-1Seriously, it’s comedic how much Maya loves the self timer sometimes. Super Mom Tip-
Don’t be afraid to try new trends or step out of your comfort zone, but don’t spend a lot of $$ unless you try the less expensive version out.  I buy a majority of my “tries” on eBay, but I also love H&M if you like to try things on.  I actually found these Forever 21 leggings at Value Village (new with the tag!) for $2.50.  Can’t beat that for a test drive.  Even if I did crash and burn…twice.
If you find that you love it, then go for a more quality piece that will last/fit better.

My favorite leather jacket + Vans…sure they go together :)

I’m a big believer in putting things together that you like, and that look good on you.  Rules schmules (to some extent!).  Then…fingers crossed they work.  And if they don’t, oh well.  At least you like what you’re wearing If you feel good, chances are you look good too 🙂  I can’t tell you how many times I tried to make something work that I liked on someone else, but felt so uncomfortable all day that I hated it/couldn’t wait to fling it off when I got home.

Now, there’s really nothing odd about this outfit.  At least I don’t think there is?  haha.  The Pink Polka Dot Vans are a little playful (totally remind me of my childhood), and the jacket is a little edgy.  Not exactly the “perfect fit”, but I was comfortable, so it was a win 🙂Blog Doma Leather Jacket Twenty8Twelve Jeans Vans-1 Blog Doma Leather Jacket Twenty8Twelve Jeans Vans-2 Blog Doma Leather Jacket Twenty8Twelve Jeans Vans-3 Blog Doma Leather Jacket Twenty8Twelve Jeans Vans-4LOVE the details in this Doma jacket.  I bought it when I worked at Sway and Cake for a year on the weekends (9 years ago??).  Yeah, THAT was dangerous… Anyway, it still totally current and still looks great! Fun with the fog…or really, just having fun :)

I have been LOVING all the fog we’ve been having here in Seattle.  It’s SO much fun to photograph!  Clients always get excited by sun (so limiting for pictures!), but fog…love it!  Some like sun flare…I like fog flare 😉

You’d think I’d want to wear vibrant colors in the haze, but no….black and gray.  My usual.Blog Doma DL1961 JCrew Converse-1 Blog Doma DL1961 JCrew Converse-2 Blog Doma DL1961 JCrew Converse-3Love that the picture on the left shows the fog rolling in, and the one on the right…it’s passed.  In a matter of minutes! This weather feeds my outfit indecision…

I’m not saying I’m complaining about the weather lately.  That would be stupid.  It’s not raining!!  However, the freezing cold mornings, followed by total sunshine, then rapidly dropping temps again makes it hard to dress accordingly.  So…sometimes there’s a midday outfit change!

Started off wearing this…

How to take your own fashion blog pictures…

So, about 60% of the shots I take are with my tripod and a timer.  20% my husband takes, and the other 20% one of my parents take.  (*edited to add* As I’ve gotten better with this process, I now take about 98% of the shots of me/me with Maya).  When I take images with my tripod and timer this is how I do it.

1-Put my camera on a tripod.

2- Find something I can focus on.  I’ve used a chair, Maya’s stroller, a long stick stuck in the grass, and then I figured out I could use a light stand.  Most people won’t have a light stand, so just use anything that will stand on it’s own that’s at least 3 feet tall.  (*edited to add.  I now tie something onto the top of my stand, so that the camera really has something clear to focus on.  I actually tied a little stuffed animal to it :})

3-Have your lens on auto focus.  Focus on your fake subject, and while you still have the shutter pressed halfway down, move the focus to manual.  This will keep the focus locked where you want it.

4-Mark where you had your fake subject.  If you are shooting at a shallow depth of field, a few inches will matter.  I usually use a leaf or a crack in the pavement.

5-Either use the self timer button or a shutter release.  I’ve got both, but end up using the self timer, so that I don’t have to worry about having something in my hand.  Plus, a lot of the times that’s how I get good laughing shots on my own.  I might trip on my way back to my spot, have a neighbor drive by wondering what the heck I’m doing, or just laugh at the hilariousness of it all.

Blog Hudson Jeans Pink Converse- Blog Hudson Jeans Pink Converse-1Ok, truth be told.  It doesn’t ALWAYS work haha.  I almost scrapped this post because I totally messed up on the focusing, but why just show my success stories?  Maya now thinks it’s a fun game.  Press the button, run to the spot…go back to the camera.  Over and over :).Blog Hudson Jeans Pink Converse-2It also helps to have a handy assistant to lug all your gear around for you 😉 Blog Hudson Jeans Pink Converse-3Good Luck!!

Alternative to T-shirt and Jeans…

I’ll be honest.  My usual go to outfit is jeans and a t-shirt.  It’s easy.  It’s comfortable.  I don’t have to think 🙂  I love this outfit, because it’s as comfortable as a t-shirt, but it looks a little nicer!  I’m so not a floral person, but there’s something about this top that I loved when I saw it!

blogFloralTopMagentaConverse-1 blogFloralTopMagentaConverse-2

I’m also a sucker for fun details in my jeans.  Love the little zippers on these DL 1961 jeans.  All their jeans have 4 way stretch, which means they are insanely comfortable and don’t stretch out!! blogFloralTopMagentaConverse-4blogFloralTopMagentaConverse-3
