Those days when you look at your wardrobe and don’t feel inspired? That’s when I reach for my black skinny jeans, a soft gray sweater, and boots, flats or kitten heel wedges. I’ll usually add some jewelry to complement the shoes – most often, I’ll do something with silver tones and subtle sparkle, but this is a great neutral palate to add some crazy colorful or fun jewelry to. Not shown here, a sparkling red ruby necklace, bright pink crystals or other gems that pop work great.
This is the day Lauren and I did our super fast whirlwind photoshoot in the park between rain showers and wind storms.. I was calling to my kids to “stay where you can see me and I can see you”..!
First of all…I am sonot a dress girl, but I’m LOVING this dress I found at my local consignment shop. There’s something freeing about buying things with a credit you have. It’s like… “Why not?!” And then…I love it!!Yes, Maya is in the car next to me eating her lunch 🙂 She’s obsessed with popping my gum bubbles 🙂 Converse rule… 🙂And then….a little shoe change takes it from day to night! Btw…I didn’t take it from day to night haha. I stayed in the day… The idea was good though, no? AND…I’m thinking this might be my outfit for our family pictures?! Thoughts? Because, I can’t even remember all the things I’ve worn/what I should wear. Suggestions welcome! And then…Funny thing about sticks. She loves them, but there was only one Goffrey 2 that stood the test of time (a month+ and a few bandages and band aids). No idea what happened to him. We came back from Napa and he was gone (NO, I am not blaming Meme and BOPO!). But…no stick has lasted more than a walk since him… Um…are you kidding me with this pose???! Below is me saying “Maya! You HAVE to stay on the sidewalk. You CANNOT get on or cross over the curb!!” Her “What about aaaaaaaaalmost sitting??” Good Lord, she is so my daughter. Help me! And Dad-SHUSH!!! 🙂 On me…
Usually it’s my parents that watch Maya when me and the Huz go out on a date, but we were long overdue to celebrate my dad’s bday. So, we got a babysitter and all went out-yay!I’m so loving mixing flares in with my skinnies. Honestly, I totally forgot I had these :} Went looking for a different pair, found these, tried them on, and liked them even more! Score one for the hoarder in me 🙂 Yes, she has a sock on her hand. Thank you Sandra Boynton “Blue Hat, Green Hat”… And, yes, she wants to touch tongues. Mother’s love, right there!Sooooo excited to see Daddy! And BOPO and Meme 🙂and then….we left 😐
What to wear to a video shoot? I’m still learning, but here are some tips I’ve gathered on the way.
Do wear solid colors
Bright colors are good – they often seem brighter in person than on screen
Neutral and muted colors and pastels work very well too
Do wear make-up
Do wear fun shoes!
Don’t wear patterns or stripes, it confuses the camera
Don’t wear pure black or white as the camera will boost the contrast and white can seem very bright and black can look very dark
Don’t wear jewelry that jingles or makes noise when you move as the mic tends to be super sensitive
Don’t wear glasses if possible because they can pick up glare from the lights and be distracting on camera. Tthis is a classic “Don’t do as I do, just do as I say!” since I wore glasses during my video shoot below – but I was reading a teleprompter and felt more comfortable in glasses. Bottom line – do what’s best for you!
Most importantly – wear something you FEEL good in! This will boost your confidence and if you are comfortable or uncomfortable – it will show up in your body language and face.
When in doubt, bring multiple outfits and have the camera operator do a quick on-camera check. Ahem.. there might be a reason my daughter has three outfit changes before leaving the house in the morning..! 😛On me…
Top – GAP and sorry I can’t find anything quite like it! It’s a light sweater with sequin embellishments at the front. Something like a simple button down would work, see this one from A.Byer on Amazon or something simple like a crew neck from Boden

Yesterday, I paired this Joie top with slip on oxfords and a pair of cropped pants for a more casual work outfit. Then, paired it with a belt and a fun pair of pumps for a dressier casual office outfit. The day before that was a more casual look.
Today, I wanted to show how I would wear it dressed up for a more corporate outfit.
I first put on a simple white camisole (probably don’t want your co-workers to see through your blouse!). I stock up on these for layering under just about everything! Then I tucked them into a pair of super wide low rise menswear inspired wool trousers.
My 13 yr old step son asked “What are you wearing? Those look like mens pants.” hahaOn me…
Yesterday, I paired this Joie top with slip on oxfords and a pair of DL 1961 jeans, for a comfortable day outfit.
Today, I wanted to show how I would wear it dressed up for a more work friendly outfit.
At first, all I did was throw on a pair of cropped navy pants. It would work for the more casual work place, and the oxfords are great if you have to be on your feet (worn with these!) Then I added a belt to make it a little more structured and threw on some fun heels! Here’s Maya’s take on a fun colorful belt. As the weather gets colder, I’d add a little cardigan and tights! Love using summer items all year round. On me…
