High Waisted Skinnies

And…this entire outfit cost less than $35!! Yay for thrift store shopping!! Honestly, I spent more on these jeans that I normally would at a thrift store ($21!), but I was intrigued by the high waist. They are currently selling for over $200, and I have zero regrets! I had doubts at first, but then realized they are basically jean spanx, and you don’t have to worry about flashing anyone when you bend over! Which…as a mom, I do about a kazillion times a day. Overall-WIN!

And, can we all pretend that I took a shower/put make up on before these pictures? Ok, thanks 🙂These Nine West booties are ridiculously comfortable too! Total steal for less than $10 🙂 The tide was out, so I let her have at it. It was so fun to watch her frolicking around! I cannot believe her boots didn’t get stuck in the sand. I was fearing a total face plant, but she stayed up!! This is when I said we had to go home haha. Look at how wet she is!! Ok, one more frolic… And she made it count 😉 On me…

Summer Whites…

I’ve talked before on many posts about my love of white denim. I have no problem wearing them all year long, but there is something extra good about wearing them on a warm summer evening… I also love a good silk top, but they really aren’t all that practical or fun when you are playing with your kids-wrinkles (insert fist shake!) This top is 100% pure fine polyester haha 🙂 And you know what…NO WRINKLES (insert fist pump!)

See? Fist pump!! Ok, really…”Tickle me?!!” 🙂hahaha. This is such a Maya move right now. The little foot kick 🙂 I love that she will just bust out dancing in the middle of the sidewalk. I know that will change eventually, but I hope it’s not for a while…On me…

Well, since I justify my “condition”, I think it always pays off haha. I’ve never been one to stick with the “If you haven’t worn it in xx amount of time, get rid of it.” I’ve had things for 5+ years that I’ve never worn, and then all of a sudden it’s my favorite thing! Or…how about these Birkenstocks that I bought…about TWENTY YEARS AGO??? They have some paint splatters on them, because I thought they’d NEVER COME BACK so I only used them to paint my house :}. But…I never got rid of them haha. Now, I’ve been wearing them again and remembering how comfy they were. Oh, another mullet top? Shocking 🙂 And this one is air conditioned too haha. I’ve had this top for 5+ years, and I wear it every summer. My thought is- if your bra is going to show, might as well make it a pretty one! Have I mentioned Maya is obsessed with Peter Pan? “Fly like Wendy?!! I can fly, I can fly, I can flyyyyyyyy!” 🙂 Maya is always saying. “Look, it’s a —-.” She’s got an eagle eye this one. A lot of times it will be a tiny star up on someone’s balcony that she sees on our walk, or it’s a cloud that looks like something. At first, I always say “No…I don’t think there’s a —- ” and then I see what she sees. She’s always right! Any guesses on what she saw below? And…if you find a platform in the middle of the woods, you dance on it. FYI… “Look Mom! It’s like poop!!” Uh…thankfully NOT poop! Not really sure why she would even be excited about picking up fake poop? Except, I’m always yelling “Don’t touch that! It’s POOP!” Even when it isn’t :}And then…. Poor Peanut. There was a field trip at the park and there were all these kids running up ahead. She kept yelling. “Hi kids!! Wait for me!!” I had to tell her that they couldn’t play with her. So sad… Still checking to see if the kids changed their mind 😦 BTW, what she saw above? A camel. Spot on, no? 😉

For all intents and purposes, this is a very simple outfit. I’m a total sucker for a fun white tee, jeans, and fun shoes. Almost as much as a mullet top 😉I’ve had these shoes for a couple of years, and I just keep wearing them… Love how they tie in the back! She wasn’t ready to end her game, and I wasn’t about to take it away from her just to get a picture 🙂 They have so many cool learning apps! They are a LIFESAVER sometimes, and…totally edjucational-WIN! Going to visit the neighborhood dog 🙂 I love that she’s a total animal lover. She wants to pet every cat and dog on our walk. “What’s that name!? Pet it??!” Then she reaches her little hand out for them to sniff 🙂She found some mossy stuff that was utterly fascinating to her 🙂And this is why we take evening walks…

OMG, it has been back to the same happy sweet Maya for the last few days. I really do think that potty training put her in a bit of a tailspin. Now that she’s got the hang of it, it’s SO NICE!!!

SO, Mama’s, if you are going through this with your little one, there is hope that it truly is just a phase! Although, I might be overly optimistic and jumping the gun on my excitement. I’ll keep you posted 😉

I’m thinking of just doing outfit posts Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I’m entering into my busy season with work, and honestly these posts take a lot of time. I LOVE doing them, and honestly have so much fun. I work on them during Maya’s nap though, and I will need to “work” during Maya’s nap a lot of the days for the next 6 months… Not really sure if anyone even really cares haha, but I thought I’d mention it. We are going to try and fill in Tues and Thursdays with recipes or DIY though, so there’s something to look forward to!

I’ll start off warning you that this is a monster post. Every year I ask for pictures as my present (SHOCKING haha). Now that I’ve figured out the self timer, I have plenty of me and Maya pics (but really, I can never have enough ha!), but getting the Huz in there requires a special occasion 🙂 Luckily my mom asked for the same thing, so it was a given. Now…that’s not saying it was smooth sailing. I mean, what family photo shoot ever is?? BUT…so glad we persevered and got some images that we will all treasure for years to come.

Probably didn’t even need to snag these outfit pics, but we did anyway… Loooooove the back of this top. No shocker there 🙂 Although, I’m not 100% sold on the high rise skinnies :{ I thought I liked them, until I looked back on these images. NOT the most flattering. Oh well. They do keep you all sucked in, which was very helpful after brunch! Could my mom be any cuter? Nope 🙂 Might be my new favorite picture of me and Maya…

Keeping it Real…

I found this quote, when I was trying to think of something to say about motherhood. Yesterday was a tad stressful because Maya just wanted to RUN, RUN, RUN. Can’t blame her! But…trying to wrestle her back wasn’t always the easiest and a few different times, I almost threw in the towel and said let’s bag it. BUT…we didn’t, and I’m so glad.

That’s not so say a Father’s love isn’t just as strong or special! Really, the last sentence is what resonated with me the most yesterday and really lately. I’ve never experienced love, joy, patience, and fear to the level that I have with Maya. I love that she calls me her best friend, and we tell each other “You’re my favorite in all the world” and it’s true. I am forever grateful for the experience, and could not possibly love this little nugget more. That said, motherhood is hard (insert apology to my mom and dad for all the shit I put you guys through :{) I wouldn’t trade all the hard moments in the world though, because one little “Sorry Mom” and a big hug, and it’s all mostly forgotten…

Such is life…and I’m glad it was documented along with the hugs and laughter 🙂

Seriously, these pants are so comfy, and they are so perfect when you need to wipe off mud from carrying your toddler! Showing off our Dancing with the Stars moves 😉 And…she’s off!! There was this little creek, and she kept running up to the path to get rocks to throw in it. Over, and over, and over… 🙂 “Rocks kissing” On me…

Side note for momma’s (or really for anyone!) These shirts from H&M are awesome in that they don’t wrinkle! I hugged and carried Maya around and you’d never know… WIN!!! I love silk tops, but not so practical for toddler days :{Normally, I don’t do black and whites on here, even though I usually only print in black and white. I messed up the exposure on this next one though because the sun came out from behind a cloud. Anywho…I LOVE it, so I saved it by turning it black and white. More info than anyone wanted/cared about,but there you go 🙂 And how about we just mark that under “photography tips” haha. Black and white…saves a lot of mistakes 🙂“Upside down, mommy!!” She cracks me up… The grass had just been mowed at the park we were at, and it was still wet. She kept picking up her feet like she didn’t want them to get wet/get grass in her shoes. So funny. Especially since she’s like me in that she’ll run barefoot anywhere! On me…

So, this isn’t a “keeping it real”, but lately Maya is into saying “Hi Friends!” to anyone we come across. It is ridiculously cute!!! Well, there were a bunch of teenagers (on lunch break??) at the park, and Maya kept saying “Hi Friends! Hiiiiiii Friends?!” Then, she looked at me (after they didn’t say hi back) and said “They’re shy…” God, I love her.

In the blink of an eye…

Your life can change. There is a family on Instagram that tragically lost their little boy. It’s every parents worst nightmare, and yet there is nothing you can do to stop it. NOTHING. You cannot watch your children every minute of every day, and even if you are watching…things happen. My heart breaks for the family, and yet I never met them. So many people rallied together in honor of that sweet boy. If you are on Instagram, you can search #redballoonsforryan and see how you can help. His story was highlighted yesterday, but every day someone is going through loss, and my heart aches for anyone who has lost a child too soon… Hug your loved ones tight.

I wasn’t even sure if I would post any pictures today, but one of the main reasons I’m doing this is to have memories of myself with Maya. Yes, we started this blog around fashion and food, but it quickly became a way for me to document me and Maya’s days together too. I’ll forever be grateful to have these images… “Tickle me?!” She’s obsessed with being tickled. Done 🙂 Looking at “insects” aka ants 😉 Totally looks like she’s actually doing the yoyo, no?
