Our Earth Day…in entirely thrifted outfits :)

Most days we are mostly wearing clothes that come from thrift stores or eBay, but I wanted to make sure that on Earth Day, we were wearing entirely thrifted outfits.

The day started off nice and sunny, but by the time we got our acts together to go down to the beach, it was cold and windy! Ok, so she wasn’t as excited as I thought she’d be haha.  Although, in her defense, we parked way down at the other end of the beach, played for a bit, and then walked down to the sculpture… And this was after a few hours playing at the gym too.
I was a liiiiittle worried about getting her to walk back, but the seagulls helped 🙂Blog Value Village EarthDay Alki Beach

Statement Jackets! Buffalo Plaid + Stripes do mix, right? :)

The best part of a statement jacket, in my opinion is that you can usually keep everything else basic and let it stand on it’s own.  I didn’t happen to do that in this case though, haha.  We took my parents out for dinner to thank them for watching Maya while I went to Austin with the Huz, and I felt like getting a little festive.  I mean, any reason to dress up, and I’m “GAME ON!!” 🙂

You can never go wrong with stripes!  At least, I don’t think so.  I wore a pair of faux leather leggings to keep me warm, and threw on a pair of Frye boots that I’ve had for 6-7 years.Blog Elliot Lauren Buffalo Plaid Silence Noise Striped Dress Frye Fiona 3 Strap Boots-1 Blog Elliot Lauren Buffalo Plaid Silence Noise Striped Dress Frye Fiona 3 Strap Boots-2Oh, and this jacket?  Random eBay add on purchase last year to get combined shipping for….$2.80!!!

Say WHAT!??!

Btw, am I the only one that will always look to buy something else to save on shipping?  I know that over the long haul I’m spending more, but I FEEL better about it haha. 😉Blog Elliot Lauren Buffalo Plaid Silence Noise Striped Dress Frye Fiona 3 Strap Boots-3 Blog Elliot Lauren Buffalo Plaid Silence Noise Striped Dress Frye Fiona 3 Strap Boots-4 Blog Elliot Lauren Buffalo Plaid Silence Noise Striped Dress Frye Fiona 3 Strap Boots-5 If there is one thing I will never get over being appreciative of, it’s all these SMILES I’ve captured of the two of us in this blogging journey…Blog Elliot Lauren Buffalo Plaid Silence Noise Striped Dress Frye Fiona 3 Strap Boots-6Yes, that’s a granola bar in her hand.  Ya do whatcha gotta do.  I managed to hide it in a few…and then not in a few 🙂 Blog Elliot Lauren Buffalo Plaid Silence Noise Striped Dress Frye Fiona 3 Strap Boots-7But really…if she’s happy, I’m happy. Blog Elliot Lauren Buffalo Plaid Silence Noise Striped Dress Frye Fiona 3 Strap Boots-8I absolutely LOVE her jacket!!  I scored it for $4!!!  It’s in mint condition!  Probably because whoever owned it before wore it for a nano second for a fancy occasion, and was too scared to ruin it.  One of the many reasons I love thrifting.  Yeck yeah, I’ll throw that adorably WARM wool coat on her for no good reason 😉Blog GapKids Wool Gold Button Jacket Naturino Boots-1Dying over that smile.  It’s a little kooky because she has a mouthful of granola bar, but still….love. Blog GapKids Wool Gold Button Jacket Naturino Boots-2 Blog GapKids Wool Gold Button Jacket Naturino Boots-3 Blog GapKids Wool Gold Button Jacket Naturino Boots-4There are two trees that she loves to hide behind and then run to and from.  It never gets old.  For her or me 😉  So, yes.  I’m feeling like I have these exact pictures in about 5 different posts, but whatever.  That’s our life… Blog GapKids Wool Gold Button Jacket Naturino Boots-5 Blog GapKids Wool Gold Button Jacket Naturino Boots-6 And I so wish I had these boots in my size.  The little lace up the back?!!!  $4, yet they retailed for around $100.  Every once in a while I totally score on shoes for her.  At the thrift store they were covered in mud and looked like they were on their last leg.  For $4 I took a chance.  All I did was wipe them off with a wet wash cloth, and I swear they look brand new!  SCORE!Blog GapKids Wool Gold Button Jacket Naturino Boots-7

I’ve talked before on many posts about my love of white denim.  I have no problem wearing them all year long, but there is something extra good about wearing them on a warm summer evening…Blog Vince Camuto DL1961 Amanda Nine West-1 Blog Vince Camuto DL1961 Amanda Nine West-2 Blog Vince Camuto DL1961 Amanda Nine West-3I also love a good silk top, but they really aren’t all that practical or fun when you are playing with your kids-wrinkles (insert fist shake!)  This top is 100% pure fine polyester haha 🙂  And you know what…NO WRINKLES (insert fist pump!)

Thrift Store Shopping…

To say that I love thrift stores would be a bit of an understatement.  I’ve talked about it a little here and there on this blog and on Instagram, but I thought I’d do a post where Maya and I are wearing ALL thrift store purchases, and do a breakdown on the cost vs sharing links.  We’ve worn everything below on the blog already, so links have already been provided for similar items.

Funny story.  I thought we would venture out of our neighborhood for this shoot, but it was so sunny (out of nowhere!) and WINDY (neither is which is good for pics), so my hopes of doing this with a Seattle skyline backdrop got dashed, and….we ended up down the street from my house haha.  Yes, all these pics are still taken with a tripod and self timer 🙂Blog Vintage Leather Jacket Zara J Brand Born Booties-1 Blog Vintage Leather Jacket Zara J Brand Born Booties-2 Blog Vintage Leather Jacket Zara J Brand Born Booties-3 Blog Vintage Leather Jacket Zara J Brand Born Booties-4In order of my favorite ways to get what you want at a fraction of the cost-

  1. eBay-By far the best way to get what you want for a fraction of the cost.  The search bar and category/size features make it so easy to find what you want.  That said, a lot of sellers don’t do a great job of listing what they have, so sometimes broaden your search and you’ll get  the real steals!  eBay tip-bid the minimum bid right away if it’s something that you want.  I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been watching something, then forget about it, see that it ended for no bids, then it gets relisted and snatched up-GRRR!  On things I really want, I set a reminder (yes, I’m that big of a nerd) and then bid in the last 10 seconds.  If you think that is extreme, I’m not alone!  I’ve been outbid with 2 seconds left!   Then…sell what you don’t want and make $$ to buy what you do want.  “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure” FOR SURE!  I’d say half of what I wear on here is from eBay 🙂
  2. Thrift Stores– By this, I mean Value Village, GoodWill, or something similar.  Goodwill posts a monthly calendar of discount days.  So, if you go and see something you like, but it’s more than you want to spend, look up the color and go back 🙂  Value Village has their Super Saver program, which obviously I’m a part of haha.  You get email notifications for random days that are 30-50% off clothing, and you get to take part in holiday sale days a day earlier than everyone else.  It’s free-sign up!!  They also have 30% off punch cards every few months, where you get stamps for every $5 purchased or bag donated.
  3. Consignment Shops– These are a little more expensive than thrift stores, but not always.  A lot of times, they don’t know the current designers and accidentally mark them lower.  Ie-just scored a pair of Current Elliot boyfriend jeans for $18 (retail for $200+)!!  And…because I had a credit for bringing stuff I didn’t wear anymore, they were FREE!!!  Don’t we all have things that we are sick of wearing?  Still cute?  Someone else will LOVE it, and you get credit to buy something “new” to you that you’ll love!  Or…just get cash to spend elsewhere 🙂
  4. Antique Stores– Not where you might originally think to shop, but there are SO many fun things to buy at a fraction of retail price.  Clothing-think cool leather jackets, wool jackets, adorable dresses, awesome shoes that are totally on trend right now (cowboy boots, loafers, oxfords, and amazing heels if you have itty bitty feet which I don’t) and fun sweaters.  Then…there’s furniture!  I could do (and probably will!) an entire blog post on cool furniture you can snag at a fraction of today’s prices.

And…here’s what we scored recently.
