Wearing a slip dress…in the snow!

I’ve taken a break from blogging, for a lot of reasons.  Maybe I’ll do a post about it at some point, BUT…I just realized that I should probably hit enter on this post, because…no more snow for a while-I HOPE!

And I LOVE these images, so…hitting publish now.

It was 5 of @TheMomEdit#TMEStyleChallenge “Wear A Dress Two Days in a Row….But Make it Look Completely Different”
SO…truth be told, I didn’t wearing any dresses during Seattle’s Snowmageddon, but I was determined to finish out this challenge!!  So Maya and I played dress up this morning.

I may have had to bribe her to come outside haha…just keeping it real! But…her outfit??!!  Kinda liking it more than mine! I’ve been meaning to style a slip dress from day to night, so this was the perfect opportunity!

Stay tuned to see the day look. Went back to my college 90’s days with the tight white tee under the slip dress! Obviously with a chunky knit over it!

On me…

Leather Jacket- Remake Remodel (eBay for $16!! similar here and cute faux option here)
Dress- Cynthia Vincent (old, similar here)
Boots- Frye “Fiona 3 strap” (old, similar here)
On Maya…
Jacket- Marks and Spencer (thrifted, but similar here)
Dress- Crew & Lu Top- (thrifted, but similar here)
Leggings- Zulily (Pretty sure they are 2T haha.  I just keep putting her in them!)
Boots- Naturino (thrifted)
Keeping it Real…
A true keeping it real would be the fact that Maya didn’t want to hold my hand going down our stairs and she slipped and fell… A sign that we shouldn’t have been out taking pictures or….a sign that she should have listened to me.
She quickly recovers and finishes strong though!  I however, step outside of the frame…
(all pictures taken with a shutter release and tripod, except ones of Maya :))

#TMEStyleChallenge Week 4 “Make Wide Legged Crop Pants Work in Winter”

We’ve had SNOWPALOOZA the last few days.

(inserted to add that we took these pictures during Snowpalooza 1!  It came back with a vengeance!!  Those pics coming soon)

And by that, I mean we had maybe 4-5 inches of snow 😂, but Seattle basically shut down. All my relatives that live in the midwest were laughing at me, BUT…it got down to 7 degrees 😳 and everything was a sheet of ice!
Sooo much fun was had yesterday if you follow our stories. We went from sunrise to sunset. My body hurts! 🤣😩

Today, while we waited for the YMCA to open I decided to do another spin on @TheMomEdit #TMEStyleChallenge which was “Make Wide Legged Crop Pants Work in Winter”.

Since Maya was home from school again, she did it too!  I wore these jeans in Mexico, and it’s so funny how they look like completely different jeans styled for the winter! When you see me looking at the camera, you know I had a remote malfunction, and Maya is standing by the tripod just snapping away! I love layering long sleeve tees under loose knit sweaters in the winter!  Even better if they are striped tees!  BUT…I thought that might be a bit too much for this outfit.
I can’t even with how cute she is. I mean… You know I love a shoe shot… Maya had literally been in a snowsuit for days, and…honestly days AFTER this, so to put her in normal clothes seemed weird, BUT…I layered to the nth degree haha. GAH!!!  And this morning light?!!!  I was in HEAVEN! Blowing “smoke”….

On me…

Coat- Vintage (thrifted)
Sweater- Inhabit (old, similar here )
Jeans- McGuire “Bessette Culottes” Mine came with a shorter hem, but I let them. (eBay)
On Maya…
Hat- H&M (old, but similar here)
Jacket- BLBY ? (thrifted, but similar here and…clearly a knock of of HERE!)
Sweater- (thrifted)
Jeans- Gap Kids (thrifted)
Shoes- Stevies (thrifted)
Keeping it Real…
My remote isn’t expensive, so it stops working on occasion…
If Maya is with me, I just ask her to punch the shutter a few times after I’ve set it up.
AND THEN….50 shots later… Yup, this is pretty much ALWAYS the first shot we take.
(all pictures taken with a shutter release and tripod, except ones of Maya :))

Oversized Paper Bag Jeans + Fitted Striped Sweater + Clogs

One of the many reasons I love to do “Style Challenges” is that it makes me pull out items I own, yet have never felt comfortable wearing. I know I should Marie Kondo that shit, but you know what….having fun stuff to wear “just in case” brings me JOY!!
Soooo…as soon as I saw the weekly theme of “Oversized Chic” for The Mom Edit’s latest Style Challenge. I knew I wanted to try and style these jeans that I’ve had for SO long, but couldn’t muster up the courage to wear them. They are so FUN!!  Yet, so overly….oversized fun?🤷🏼‍♀️

I don’t know. I think I may have “grown into them” in the last few years, because I swear they were way too big on me when I first bought them…😬I guess that’s one good thing about overindulging?
In any case. With Jeans this high waisted and oversized, I needed a pretty basic top. THANKFULLY it’s been sunny and actually getting to 50 degrees!! So, no jacket needed (sorry to all of those of you that are still living in bundled up-land)

AND…I cannot believe it, but I found my favorite brand of @svenclogs recently for….$4!!! 😱 I did a double and triple take and snatched them up so fast! 🤗 Oh, and these amazing jeans? They retail for $390…. 😬 and…I got them on eBay for less than $20. I thought they were vintage! 🤷🏼‍♀️🤗

I cannot WAIT for consistent warm weather to wear both of these ALL THE TIME!! Funny thing is that I’ve had these for probably…2 years!  I was convinced I’d just resell them, but hadn’t gotten around to it yet.  I’m SO glad I didn’t!

Marie Kondo….They now bring me JOY! 😉

On me…

Sweater- Enza Costa (eBay, similar here )
Bag- American Eagle (hand me down from my mom!)
Boots- Sven “Plain 3″ Clogs” thrifted for $4!
Keeping it Real…
The whole purse swing is hard to get with a tripod…oh, and when you spot your neighbor?  EVEN HARDER!! 😂
Oh….and another neighbor?  Don’t mind me…

Leather Jacket + Cami + High Waisted Crops + Pointy Toe High Boots

This look originally came about from The Mom Edit’s latest Style Challenge.

The first style challenge was “Layer a Cami over something Warmer”, and I posted my take on it here.

If I’m being honest…it was fun to think outside of the box, but I’m not sure I’d have felt comfortable wearing that out for date night… So, I removed the button down, and this is definitely more “me”.

BUT….date night thoughts for those not huddled in their houses tomorrow by the fire… The high waisted crop flare is absolutely my fav jean right now, but it’s harder to wear in the winter.  I put a pair of high and tight booties on, and suddenly…no more cold ankles!

And totally date night worthy!
I have gotten sooooo much mileage out of this vintage belt!!  On of the many reasons I love to thrift!

On me…

Cami- Foley (old, similar here and less expensive here)
Belt- Vintage (thrifted)
Leather Jacket- Remake Remodel (eBay for $16!! similar here and cute faux option here)
Heels- Nine West (old, similar here and here)
Keeping it Real…
I showed a video of it being garbage day when I was taking these, but I didn’t capture the construction that was going on at the end of the block… Yes, I was surrounded, and…yes, I did outfit changes hahaha.  No shame in my game at this point!!
And…I had thoughts of taking pics without my jacket, but….it was 40-something degrees.  Didn’t happen.  Ok, it did, but it’s not worth posting haha.
(all pictures taken with a shutter release and tripod)

Oversized Bomber Jacket + Skinnies + Tennies (night on the beach)

Nights on the beach are my favorite (with Maya of course! )

And this puffer has become a total staple in my wardrobe lately! 💚

At first I wasn’t sure if it would go with anything, but I wear it with EVERYthing!! Clearly green parkas are a fav… NOT going to e able to do this much longer!  But…I keep saying that. Video of the set up I used here…Hahaha.  Clearly so happy I’m taking her picture.
I had taken Charlie’s senior pictures earlier in the day, and Maya tagged along.  While he was changing, I took some of her 🙂 . Paint on her forehead from school and all… Seriously though, what the WHAT!??  It blows my mind that Charlie was Maya’s age when I met him…and now.  18, 6’5″ and about to graduate! Of course Maya wanted to pop into almost all his pictures. They are pretty stinking cute together… See what happened right after the above shot that almost gave me a heart attack…

More of an accurate depiction of their relationship haha.

 On me…

Sweater- Feel the Piece (ebay)
Jeans- DL1961 Emma (eBay, similar here)
Shoes- Superga (eBay)
On Maya…
Jacket- Bernardo (thrifted, but similar here)
Top- (thrifted)
Keeping it Real…
My remote has been a little faulty, so…we are constantly wondering if it will go off haha.
And…Maya jumping to me with rocks behind me…almost ended badly!
(all pictures taken with a self timer/shutter release and tripod, except ones of Maya :))

White Button Down + High Waisted Crops + Horseshoe Loafers

Is there anything more classic that a white button down with jeans?

I’ve posted a few variations here on the blog already…  Honestly, I had no idea how many times until I entered it into the search bar haha.

With boyfriend jeans and tenniesWith darker crop flares and black slip ons…a short sleeve summer rendtion…Another summer rendition with denim shorts!  Dressing it up with a leather jacket and flared denim.  With Levi’s and loafers.  With Fun clogs… with a cardigan layered over a tied button up and high wasited skinnies.

All that to say…it’s a combo that is hard to go wrong!

I had on this outfit for the “Layer a Cami over something Warmer” challenge for The Mom Edit’s latest Style Challenge.

All I did was take the cami off and swap out my belt and shoes.  And, voila!  A completely different outfit!

On me…

Top- Theory (old, similar here, and less expensive here)
Belt- Vintage (thrifted)
Leather Jacket- Remake Remodel (eBay for $16!! similar here and cute faux option here)
Heels- Brand Unknown via eBay, similar here, but original Gucci design here.
Keeping it Real…
I actually shot 3 different looks, with 3 different tripod set ups in the span of 25 minutes.  I can only guess what the construction guys down the street thought…I honestly couldn’t care less 😉
(all pictures taken with a shutter release and tripod)

Chunky Hand Knit Cardigans with Thrifted Frye Boots on the Beach…

Is there anything better than an oversized chunky knit cardigan in the winter? 🤗
Well, yes, when it’s handknit by your dad!  He actually made this sweater for himself, and when he didn’t want it anymore, I stole it out of his donation pile haha.   Yet another reason I love having my parents living only a few blocks away!

It’s week 3 for @theMomEdit  style challenge., and the theme is “Oversized Chic”

This outfit errs more on the side of comfy…but I’ll try and work on another post that’s a little more “chic”.
Until then…some of my new favorite pics of us playing on the beach!
I recently scored these Frye Boots for $14 at a thrift store.  I could NOT believe my luck!!!  I had scored Maya’s a few years ago for $20, and anxiously awaited for them to fit!

Proooooobably wasn’t the best shoe choice for playing on the beach at sunset last week, but…that’s one of my favorite things about thrifting.
Wear it, ENJOY it, play in it, have no guilt over it.

Thankfully, a wet wipe to both as soon as we got back in the car and they were all good. ☺️
GAH!!!  That sunset!!! Maya found a few crabs, but they had burrowed deep by the time I got over there. One of my favorite things to capture with my clients is silhouettes at sunset.  I love trying to make the image “them” even though you can’t see their faces.

Sadly, as it got darker I couldn’t find my remote on the rocks!  SO…I had Maya push the shutter for me as I jumped and I pushed the shutter for her, and then I merged them together in Photoshop.

These totally crack me up!!
I LOVE these, but sooooo wish I’d been able to capture some of us just dancing.  When I couldn’t find the remote, I just set up my phone to take this video and I LOVE IT!!!  I guess I’ll just have to try again 😉

If you are following along on the weekly @theMomEdit  style challenge. you can see

Week 1 “Layer A Cami Over Something Warmer”

Week 2 “All Black with a Pop of Color”  (I did a day to night) day here and night here.

The next week challenge goes from 1/30-2/6 and it is…

“Make Wide Leg Crop Pants Work in Winter” .

On me…

Sweater- Hand Knit by my dad.
Top- J Crew (thrifted, similar here)
Boots- Frye “Veronica Short” (thirfted for $14!)
On Maya…
Sweater- Crewcuts by J Crew (thrifted)
Top- Crewcuts by J Crew (thrifted)
Jeans- GapKids (thrifted, but similar here)
Boots- Frye “Veronica Slouch” (thrifted, sold out, similar here)
Keeping it Real…
I was having some remote technical issues.  Maya’s face though.  Worried, yet, um…
The set up for us dancing… The set up for our jumping shot 🙂
Maya didn’t quite understand when to push the shutter.  She’d hit the shutter after I jumped,
and then she kept laughing uncontrollably, so I
literally had to jump like 10 times!  My 44 year old legs cannot do that anymore haha.  I really
thought I might pull a muscle, but…thankfully I didn’t. Ok, I had a few fails too 🙂
But laughs were had by all!
(all pictures taken with a shutter release and tripod, except ones of Maya :))
