Exploring Low Tide (again!) | Constellation Park

My parents were down at the beach with other beach naturalists, so we decided to go visit them.  Honestly, I took these images a while ago.

BTW, if you are in the West Seattle area… It’s a group that volunteers to go down during extreme low tides.  Look for red hats when you are down there!

I didn’t want to risk setting up the tripod on this uneven terrain, so my dad took a few pictures of us. 🙂

Extreme Low Tide in Seattle…

Whenever we get low tides, it’s SO fun to go out on the beaches and play.  We can’t always catch it (with Maya’s school schedule), but this last weekend, it was REALLY low tide!  So. of course we had to go check it out!!

There’s a specific spot that I love to go to that really only locals know about (I think!).  It’s usually only a TINY beach when the tide isn’t low, so not many people would ever think to go there.  I mean, it must be the case, because there’s never anyone there when we go, compared to the main Alki Beach which is PACKED on nice weekends!

The best part is that you can see the mountains….and the city (coming next!)Blog Free People D-ID Boyfriend Shorts Salt Water Sandals Low Tide West Seattle-12It’s hard to get Maya to come anywhere near me, because she just wants to run and play in the sand.Blog Free People D-ID Boyfriend Shorts Salt Water Sandals Low Tide West Seattle-2 Blog Toddler Levi Cut Offs Salt Water Sandals Low Tide Seattle-3Yup…this view is only a few yards away from the above shots!  Honestly, not even that!  I could have pivoted from the above shot to get this!! I actually suggested a different outfit before we left, and she was like

“No, that’s too special…”

HAHAHA.  She NEVER used to say that, so it’s so funny that she would think that way.  AND…SO glad that she did!!  Even if I only spend a few dollars on things for her, it makes me sad when they get ruined.  BUT, because I only spend a few dollars on things, I don’t care when this is what she wants to do 🙂Blog Toddler Levi Cut Offs Salt Water Sandals Low Tide Seattle-7EXCEPT for the fact that once she’s down there…she doesn’t want to get up ;{Blog Free People D-ID Boyfriend Shorts Salt Water Sandals Low Tide West Seattle-8 Blog Free People D-ID Boyfriend Shorts Salt Water Sandals Low Tide West Seattle-9So, I have to offer to play with her (which is really all I want in the first place!) 🙂 Blog Free People D-ID Boyfriend Shorts Salt Water Sandals Low Tide West Seattle-10 Blog Free People D-ID Boyfriend Shorts Salt Water Sandals Low Tide West Seattle-11 Blog Free People D-ID Boyfriend Shorts Salt Water Sandals Low Tide West Seattle-13 Blog Free People D-ID Boyfriend Shorts Salt Water Sandals Low Tide West Seattle-14And….back to playing in the sand.Blog Toddler Levi Cut Offs Salt Water Sandals Low Tide Seattle-14Until I gave her permission to just jump and play! Break in the rain…break for the beach!

We had a 2 hour window the other day between downpours, so we raced outside to take advantage!  I’m almost embarrassed by how many times I’ve worn this sweater lately!  It’s just so cozy.  And it’s perfect for layering.  With a tank when it’s warmer, and long sleeve tee like I’m wearing here when it was colder!Blog Free People Pointelle Ballet DL1961 Tony Superga-1Blog Free People Pointelle Ballet DL1961 Tony Superga-2

Hanna Andersson…it’s a play dress, it’s a day dress!

For those of you with kids, I’m sure you’ve heard of Hanna Andersson.  I first got hooked on their pajamas.  I mean…the organic cotton and the prints are SO GOOD!  Super soft, and you can wash them a kazillion times, and they still look new!  Maya doesn’t know about brand names, but now that she dresses herself, she goes for what she loves.  And honestly…if I didn’t intervene with the occasional “Don’t you want to wear SOMETHING ELSE?!!“, she’d wear her same favorite Hanna Andersson dresses over, and over, and over.  Not that it’s a bad thing, but…I may have bought other items that just sit hanging… 😉

SO…imagine how thrilled I was when I was contacted by them and asked if I would want to test out their spring “It’s a playdress, it’s a daydress” (This was last fall!  Just want to make sure you know that I’m not torturing her now in the cold temps!!).

I’ve been DYING to share these images, and I’m so excited that I finally can!  Fair warning…this is a long post, but really…it could have been 3 times as long!  Put her in one of these dresses + a pair of their leggings on the beach, and she’s in heaven!  Sadly, the leggings got soaked about 5 minutes (typical…), and I took them off 😉Blog Hanna Andersson Forever Play Dress Navy Floral-1 Blog Hanna Andersson Forever Play Dress Navy Floral-2 Blog Hanna Andersson Forever Play Dress Navy Floral-4 Blog Hanna Andersson Forever Play Dress Navy Floral-5I love this next one.  It totally looks beautifully posed.  Clearly…it wasn’t 😉 Blog Hanna Andersson Forever Play Dress Navy Floral-6Of course, she had requested temporary tattoos on her a few days before.  I tried wiping them off, but is there anything more authentic on a 4 year old??! Pajamas!! * I MEAN * Jumpsuits for Everyday (for the WIN!!)

Ok, I was slow on the romper/jumpsuit rage, because well….how do you go to the bathroom??!!

Well…easily.  Because, let’s be honest, the only other person in the bathroom other than you, if you are a mother, is your child.  And, they’ve seen it all before.  Yes, you have to be more careful in public restrooms not to let things drag, but…the one step dressing and comfort make that all worth while!!  SO COMFY.  SO EASY!  Aka…WIN!

And, can we just talk about the day we had on Sunday here in Seattle?!!  SO OVERDUE!  It’s been torrential downpours and frigid temps for so long, and then all of a sudden… It was like we all needed the reminder of why we LOVE living in Seattle.  And…this is why. Blog Three Dots Boat Neck Jumpsuit Gray Converse-2 Oh, and for those of you wondering…braids?  On an over 40 year old mother?  YES!  Didn’t take a shower.  Curly hair mess, suddenly tamed.  DONE!  So, there you go.  I think we should all band together and make it the new “top knot”  It takes more time, but…kinda makes you look younger, and, I mean…DUH! 🙂Blog Three Dots Boat Neck Jumpsuit Gray Converse-3 Blog Three Dots Boat Neck Jumpsuit Gray Converse-1Blog Three Dots Boat Neck Jumpsuit Gray Converse-4 Blog Three Dots Boat Neck Jumpsuit Gray Converse-5 Loooove this next one!  Those clouds?  HER SMOOCH??!Blog Three Dots Boat Neck Jumpsuit Gray Converse-6 Blog Three Dots Boat Neck Jumpsuit Gray Converse-7 Blog Three Dots Boat Neck Jumpsuit Gray Converse-8 Blog Three Dots Boat Neck Jumpsuit Gray Converse-9That little tongue as she throws the rock??  LOVE!!Blog GapKids Jean Jacket Design History Dress Pink Converse-1 Blog GapKids Jean Jacket Design History Dress Pink Converse-2 Blog GapKids Jean Jacket Design History Dress Pink Converse-3Blog Design History Dress Pink Converse-4 Blog Design History Dress Pink Converse-5 Blog Design History Dress Pink Converse-6On me…

Sunset on the beach…

This beach is kind of on the down low as far as West Seattle goes.  Compared to the much busier Alki Beach.  However…when there is a good sunset, not so much.  So…we had an audience when we were doing these, hence no shots of me awkwardly posing by myself 😉Blog Old Navy Swing Top Edyson Destroyed Skinny Birkenstocks-1 Blog Old Navy Swing Top Edyson Destroyed Skinny Birkenstocks-2A rock in one hand…a stick in another.  SO perfectly Maya… 🙂 Guess Romper Navy Converse High Tops-1Guess Romper Navy Converse High Tops-2Guess Romper Navy Converse High Tops-3Guess Romper Navy Converse High Tops-4Blog West Seattle Sunset-1Guess Romper Navy Converse High Tops-5Blog West Seattle Sunset-2On me…

So, here’s another look at my set up and a refresher on how I take the images of me and me with Maya.  I use that light stand with a stuffed animal at the top to focus on.  Once I’ve locked in my focus, I switch the lens over to manual focus, so it doesn’t change.  I mark where I need to stand, and run over to that spot with Maya.  I’ve got my camera on a tripod a few yards away.  I usually move the light stand completely out of the way, but messed up on this one 😉  Yes, I’m sure people think I’m completely wacko haha.  Oh, well!  One of these days I’ll try and take a video of how it all goes down…. Here’s Maya getting the hang of it all on her own!  And…here’s the original post where I talk about my set up (misses and all!)Blog Old Navy edyson Outtake
