Maya turns 5!! And she chooses black balloons… :)

I’m not sure why this age feels so much different, but…you. You are becoming such an amazing little PERSON!
You crack me up like no other. I’m in awe of your wit, and you are truly happiest when you are making others laugh.
You seek out and experience joy in a way that I envy. It’s so infectious! You brighten everyone’s day that you are around. Luckily, for me, I get to be around you a lot. ❤️
You ABSOLUTELY have your own opinions, and cannot be swayed.
Black balloons? Even after both me and the lady blowing them up tried to sway you away towards another color. Honestly…I love them!
You are a total rule follower. It’s a blessing and a curse. Curse, mainly when you call me out on breaking the rules…
You used to be sooooo cautious, but are now suddenly opening up to trying to do things that I can’t believe you want to try. And you do them!! SO PROUD!
Most of all…you are one of the sweetest, kindest, loving people I know, and I am so lucky to be your mama.
Love you Peanut.blog-zara-faux-leather-jacket-happy-hannas-tutu-dress-smoky-cowboy-boots-1 It’s so funny.  At the balloon counter, both the woman who was helping us and I double and triple checked that she really wanted black balloons.  She was insistent, and I honestly love how they turned out!blog-zara-faux-leather-jacket-happy-hannas-tutu-dress-smoky-cowboy-boots-2 Oh, and I also had a different outfit picked out for her, but she was adamant about this dress and boots.   And I have to admit…that pop of pink?

LOVE IT!blog-zara-faux-leather-jacket-happy-hannas-tutu-dress-smoky-cowboy-boots-3 hahaha.blog-zara-faux-leather-jacket-happy-hannas-tutu-dress-smoky-cowboy-boots-4I kept my outfit pretty simple.  A) because, honestly, I wasn’t even sure we were really going to attempt this shoot until about 45 minutes before we did it-ha! B) it was her day! C) you can’t go wrong with black, denim, and a leather jacket!blog-doma-leather-jacket-cynthia-vincent-peplum-top-dl1961-toni-el-naturalista-booties-1 Where’s Maya?? 🙂blog-doma-leather-jacket-cynthia-vincent-peplum-top-dl1961-toni-el-naturalista-booties-6 blog-doma-leather-jacket-cynthia-vincent-peplum-top-dl1961-toni-el-naturalista-booties-7 blog-doma-leather-jacket-cynthia-vincent-peplum-top-dl1961-toni-el-naturalista-booties-8 blog-doma-leather-jacket-cynthia-vincent-peplum-top-dl1961-toni-el-naturalista-booties-9I could eat her up…blog-zara-faux-leather-jacket-happy-hannas-tutu-dress-smoky-cowboy-boots-10 blog-zara-faux-leather-jacket-happy-hannas-tutu-dress-smoky-cowboy-boots-11 blog-zara-faux-leather-jacket-happy-hannas-tutu-dress-smoky-cowboy-boots-12blog-zara-faux-leather-jacket-happy-hannas-tutu-dress-smoky-cowboy-boots-12 blog-zara-faux-leather-jacket-happy-hannas-tutu-dress-smoky-cowboy-boots-13

In the green of the grass…
In the smell of the sea…
in the clouds floating by…
at the top of a tree…
in the sound crickets make at the end of the day…

“You are loved. You are loved. You are loved,” they all say.

Happy 5th birthday sweet girl!

Oversized Knits (w/fun details) + Moto Boots

I love the mix of this top that is somewhat feminine in it’s color and details, with the grungy gray skinnies and old moto boots.  I had to run around all morning (Maya had gymnastics, followed immediately by school), then raced home to get caught up on work.  The shower never happened, but I was beyond comfy!  I had finished up some work with about 20 minutes to spare before I had to pick Maya up.  I ran down and took some  pictures really quick, because we had a random break in the monsoon rain we’ve had lately!  I had hopes of bringing Maya back after school, but she was pretty beat…so we just chilled at home instead.Blog Free People Pointelle Ballet Neck Pullover Genetic Denim Mayhem Fiorentini Baker 7040 Boot-1 Blog Free People Pointelle Ballet Neck Pullover Genetic Denim Mayhem Fiorentini Baker 7040 Boot-2 Blog Free People Pointelle Ballet Neck Pullover Genetic Denim Mayhem Fiorentini Baker 7040 Boot-3 Blog Free People Pointelle Ballet Neck Pullover Genetic Denim Mayhem Fiorentini Baker 7040 Boot-4 Blog Free People Pointelle Ballet Neck Pullover Genetic Denim Mayhem Fiorentini Baker 7040 Boot-5On me…

Keeping it Real…
I really wanted to show the movement of this sweeater and capture the super cool deep side slits.  That didn’t happen haha.  Two cars pulled up just as I was doing this, and I decided to just call it a day after one failed attempt! 😉Blog Outtake

Layering a Leather Jacket + Coated Denim

I don’t know if I have the nerve for leather on leather, but leather with coated denim-sure!  Especially when the edginess is broken up with super soft cashmere and a denim shirt.  Not that I’m shy about going more edgy!  I actually feel more comfortable going that route than preppy, so this was my way of mixing in a little preppiness and still feeling like me.  I’m sure some people might wonder where the preppiness is, but for me…a button up denim shirt that’s not a “jacket” with a cashmere scarf = preppy.  It’s about as far as I can go in my comfort zone.  Preppy is one of those styles I LOVE to look at, but don’t feel comfortable wearing.  I’m sure we ALL can relate (in one form of fashion!)  Maybe it’s all my years in corporate banking that I never really felt comfortable in…hmmm…

I took these really quick one day while Maya was in school, so another “just me” post, which feels so weird.Blog Doma Leather J Crew Gap DL1961 River Checkered Vans-1 Blog Doma Leather J Crew Gap DL1961 River Checkered Vans-2I took these before I had discovered my shutter release and was trying to capture a walking shot with the self timer.  It didn’t go as planned 😉 Blog Doma Leather J Crew Gap DL1961 River Checkered Vans-3I had this thought that if I actually did my hair and Maya wasn’t with me, I might try and take a “head shot” for myself.

Nope, this won’t be it.  But…it’s filler, since I only took a handful of shots haha. 🙂Blog Doma Leather J Crew Gap DL1961 River Checkered Vans-4 Blog Doma Leather J Crew Gap DL1961 River Checkered Vans-5

I took these in approximately 3 minutes and 46 seconds.  Ok, not so approximately haha 😉
It was cold, and I felt like a total nerd by myself, so…GET IT DONE (love looking back on my camera’s time stamp)!
But, totally a keeping it real for people that think it takes a ton of time to do this.  YES, it does if you don’t have a process or want a LOT of variety, BUT…it can be done quickly.  If you are alone.  Throw a child into the mix, and anything goes… 😉

Mixing masculine with feminine…

Today was a bit of a rough day.  I had to take Maya to yet another urologist, and she’s gotten to the point now where the minute they call her name to go back she starts crying hysterically.  Not without good reason considering they had to do another catheter-ugh.  Needless to say, we were both in tears by the end of the visit…

Super Mom Tip:
I posted one of the pics of Maya and me on my facebook page and a friend commented on my hair.  I laughed, because it was my “I didn’t take a shower and was sick of my usual messy bun” look.  Pretty easy to do.  Just start twisting one side (fix with bobby pin).  Twist other side, then gather both into a ponytail.  Then wrap into a bun.  Turns curly out of control bedhead into something a little put together 🙂dit-elle-Lauren

Cheating on my skinnies…

90% of the time I wear skinny jeans.

a) Because it feels like I’m wearing sweats (if you get ones that have stretch, which all of mine do!)

b) The inseam on them is usually more conducive to my shorter legs, or they look ok scrunched at the bottom or rolled!  Which all boils down to NO HEMMING!

c)  I can wear them with flip flops, flats, or boots (aka any season!)

All that said.  I love the look of a wide leg jean.  I’m really into the super wide leg, but found these mid rise (thought I’d NEVER go back there!) wide leg jeans from Citizens of Humanity at a thrift store ($7!) and figured I’d try them!1Blog CUHWideLegCremeTop-1

Not sure if it was the same trip, but I scored these Jeffrey Campbell wedges at the thrift store too (less than $10)!  If I ever put on a heel (for non going out day wear), it’s going to be a wedge.  Not sure why, but they are just so much more comfortable.1Blog CUHWideLegCremeTop-2  This top is just a glorified T (yup, still staying true to my jeans and t-shirt uniform!)1Blog CUHWideLegCremeTop-3

Then to dress it up a little for maybe a date night or client meeting (if you have a little more casual work place environment)…add a cropped leather jacket and another pair of leather wedges!1Blog CUHWideLegCremeTop-41Blog CUHWideLegCremeTop-6 I know that nobody will really see it, but I’m a sucker for cool lining 🙂 1Blog CUHWideLegCremeTop-5blogCUHWideLegCremeTop-61Blog CUHWideLegCremeTop-8 1Blog CUHWideLegCremeTop-9Maya cheated on her skinnies too 🙂1Maya100wksOveralls-1On me…
