For $9, I took this relatively simple and casual outfit, and dressed it up ($4 for the vintage silk scarf, and $5 for the sandals). I scored this super cute vintage silk scarf while I was on my girls trip. I keep wanting to figure out how to wear it in my hair, and a) have it stay put b) not look like I’m totally trying too hard. So far, I haven’t succeeded in either of those, so…instead I wore it as a belt! 🙂
This was supposed to be a hug. Maya had other plans. Does she think she’s in the circus??
Maya calls this her “Rapunzel dress”. I have no idea why, but I totally know what one she means when she asks to wear it. I usually say no (it’s silk…), but since she’d been super sick for the past 4 days, I said yes. Truth be told. Getting out of our self imposed lock down to play dress up for a little bit sounded really nice.
Oh, you’re going over there? I see…
I know how to get her back though 😉
She’s obsessed with other people’s mail boxes!!
And…my jewelry as of late. She found this bracelet of mine and carries it/wears it everywhere. It’s a cuff, and I bent it so it closed. It aaaaalmost fits her.

Telling our neighbors how old she is. Nope, not 6…just a double dose of 3!

Comfy Weekend Wear…
Nothing fancy about this outfit… I wore this to photograph a family on Saturday, and I have to be comfy/able to move around/not be worried about getting dirty since I’m usually running around, crawling on the ground, or squatting down to get the shot. I’m loooooving mid to high rise jeans, because I certainly don’t want to be flashing anyone!! Plus, I’m totally liking straight leg jeans rolled lately…
And these shoes!? I’m obsessed with them. They are so comfy, yet a little more hip that wearing regular running shoes with jeans.
Found a potato bug! I remember loving to play with potato bugs when I was little. She was a liiiiiittle scared to pick him up on her own at first though 🙂

I swear she picked out her boots herself after I had my shoes on!!

Um…

She actually tried to put him on one of these leaves to get him back to nature. He wasn’t having any of that and just crawled up her sleeve…
We eventually put him back in a hole in the concrete steps where we found him 🙂

Black, on black, on black…
I think most women gravitate towards black when they are feeling…not so thin, have no idea what they want to wear, or have zero time to think of what to wear. Basically, it’s a no brainer, yet it’s a total win pretty much every time!
All that said, I almost threw in the towel on this shoot before it ever even happened…
A) The minute we set all our crap down I heard a snap. My hair tie broke. Mom bun down!!! Did I have a spare in my ginormous beach bag? Of course not. So, I tied my hair in braids (every 5 minutes…) And for those of you that have naturally curly hair. You know that there is NO just leaving it down if you haven’t showered. No…I hadn’t showered yet. haha. I knew we’d be needing a shower after the beach, so why bother? 🙂 Thankfully I had been straightened it a few days earlier, which made it behave a liiiiittle better 🙂
B) Maya was feeling a little off (edited to add, she was getting sick). I kept asking her if she wanted to find sea glass (no, thank you), balance on the log with me (no thank you), play “chase me” (no thank you), go run on the beach (no thank you). I’ll admit, it was nice of her to be polite, but ugh.
C) It went from overcast and chilly to totally sunny and HOT in about 5 minutes. That all black being a win every time? Not so much. I was sweating like a pig.
But…for F’s sake. I lugged all my camera crap down there, so I was taking a few pics! 🙂
But…then she came around! One of my favorite things is how enthusiastically Maya runs in for a hug!
hahaha Um, dramatic much?
At 40 lbs, I think the days of me throwing Maya up in the air are numbered. But…I’ll keep trying as long as I can, and as long as my back lets me 😉
Because she freaking loves it!! And, I love hearing her laugh and say “Again!!!”

And, she’s OFF!

Seriously…every 5 minutes. Rebraiding or retwisting my hair into a bun. I even stabbed a stick into it to try and make it stay.
And, yes…that would be some baby butt crack you see. It doesn’t matter if the jeans are too big, too small, just right. She sports butt crack at some point during the day.

Mother’s Day 2015
Every year, both my mom and I ask for one thing on Mother’s Day. Pictures. The apple doesn’t fall far haha.
I got soooo much more though, and it truly was the perfect day. Maya and I started off going for a morning walk with my parents while the Huz got some work done (and snuck away to Pike Place to get both me and my mom gorgeous flowers!). Then, we took a little day trip to Snoqualmie Falls. Came home in time for Maya to “nap” 😉 while I got some work done, then my parents came over for an AMAZING dinner the Huz prepared. Couldn’t have asked for a better day…
I ditched the tripod and my mom got these of me and Maya before dinner.
Btw, my entire outfit is thrifted, and the total cost was around $20! 🙂
This looks super sweet, but she’s just about to bite my nose haha. 😉

I could just eat her up!!!
And then my dad got these of the three of us. That little smirk KILLS ME!!

After dinner and a liiiittle wine, we all came back outside. I switched up Maya’s sweater so that she would match the Huz 🙂
Dancing with Daddy 🙂
The Huz finally got on the receiving end of Maya’s licking kisses 🙂
And then my mom got a few of me and the Huz.
LOVE this one.
Yeah, Maya wanted nothing to do with getting in a pic with us.
But you couldn’t get her OUT of the pictures I was trying to take of my parents hahaha. She’s actually in the one above this too, but I zoomed in and cropped her out 😉

Playing in Low Tide…in Vegan Leather!
I’ve talked over and over about my love of leather pants. Vegan Leather has it’s own perks. Besides the humanitarian aspects… I was totally fine wearing these leggings down on the beach. I knew I was going to get wet and that Maya would likely throw wet sand on me (check and check). And since I scored them new with tags on eBay for $9, I wasn’t worried one bit. With one wet wipe all was back as it was. 🙂

Oh, and thank goodness, Maya’s boots are faux leather too! 😉

Sunshine AND Rain…only in Seattle.
This was such weird day weatherwise. It was sunny one minute, and than it started raining about 10 minutes after we got there! But…then stopped after 10 minutes! All the while, with blue skies up above?
I’ve been wearing these shoes so much since I scored them thrifting. They are ridiculously comfortable!! And…finally a close up of Greta’s paw and Maya’s footprints 🙂

I was SO impressed that she was able to balance on this!! Not only was it thin, but it kept wobbling due to the angle. GO Maya!

We made a run for the car, and then as soon as we got to the steps it stopped raining. Maya found this butterfly/moth in the grass, which was pretty cool.

Ditching the skinny jeans for high waisted flares…
One of my favorite people to follow on Instagram is C2C Central. I talked about them here before. Their #CoastToCoastChallenge for yesterday was to “ditch the skinny jeans”. I’ve loved wide leg denim for….gosh 10+ years?? I mean really it’s been circling around since the 70’s no? Well, even before then with Katherine Hepburn!
All that to say, I love the style, and back when I wore heels more often I rotated them in more frequently. I recently scored this pair for $10.99 when the Huz and I were in San Francisco (I was actually super peeved they didn’t let me use my 20% Seattle coupon at Goodwill!). Still worth it though, because they are super comfy and fun! Albeit a size too small. ;{ Oh, well.
Truth be told. We took these in 15 minutes before Maya went to school. So…excuse the puffy eyes on both of us, and the quick braided updo on unshowered/no make up me 😉
I kid you not, Maya art directed this shot entirely herself!!!! There were a few outtakes when I didn’t know exactly what she wanted, but it went something like this.
“Mom, you sit right here.
No, like dis!!!
NO. HERE!
Ok, now I sit on your lap like dis… :)”
Well, done grasshopper, well done.
I bought this shimmery backdrop for a party a while back. I have it in our garage, and Maya randomly grabs strips of it and calls them her “snakes”. Well, she wanted to bring one with us, which was great, because I’d never documented it before.

On me…
Ripped denim and bubbles…you can’t go wrong.
I’m so loving that it’s staying lighter later. It’s especially nice because our weather has been so bipolar lately! One minute we have sunshine, the next it’s raining! You never know when you can go outside and have fun! On this day, it suddenly got nice later, so we ran outside to play with some bubbles.
And when I’m brain dead…ripped denim and a tee are what I grab.
It’s hit or miss on her actually blowing the bubbles 😉
And…then she got it!
LOVE THAT SWEET FACE!
So, funny story. Our neighbor was outside throwing a ball for his dog. He kept making noises at Maya, and she kept making noises back at him. They went back and forth, and back and forth. I got a little nervous that they were waking other kids up that don’t have such late bed times… ;{
On me…

Cashmere and ripped denim…the perfect pair.
I love dressing one way on top and then another way on the bottom. For some reason, I think it just works perfectly. On top, I feel like a preppy PTA mom, and on the bottom, not so much. 🙂
I can’t even handle how cute she is!!!!
My mom gave Maya this flower the other night, and I’ve been dying to take her pictures with it in this dress. They match perfectly 🙂

Collecting more “beach eggs” for her collections.

Hahahaha.

Another day on the beach…
We are getting to that time when a LOT of our posts will be down on the beach. We are super lucky to live so close to a gorgeous beach, and I loooove that Maya just runs, and runs, and runs!
I’m a liiiiiittle pissed that I messed up the focus on these first few, but whatever. That’s the downside to the beach. There are always people watching and wondering what the heck I’m doing with the tripod, and then I usually end up kicking whatever marker I had for my spot or it gets buried in the sand! First world problems for sure 😉
Thankfully the images are pretty small, so you might not even be able to tell. I can though, and it peeves me off!!
