Growing up in the NW, I’m actually happier on overcast days… I know that sounds weird, but often times when it’s totally sunny, I don’t want to go outside. Everyone and their dog (literally!) goes outside to play, and sometimes I get a little clausterphobic. I love that we had the beach almost all to ourselves on Wednesday!!
And, we were able to run around and play without getting all sweaty-WIN!
Hahaha. I posted this next one on Instagram. This started out as us having a Kung Fu Panda kick off. Then, I wanted to see if my 40 year old arse could still do one of these jumps. Then, once I did…I was determined to get it with the self timer! Honestly, I can’t believe I actually caught it! It did take a few tries HA! Maya kept saying “Do it AGAIN!!” 😉

Some people are playing in the snow…we have the sand 🙂

Roar! Maya the Lion! Or…Maya the Tiger. It changes by the minute 🙂

At first I was like “Maya, no! Put that down! You’re going to get so wet and dirty!!”
And then…I realized it was worth her joy to just let her have at it 🙂

Oh, and somersaults in the sand? Sure, why not…

DIY Destroyed Denim…and we found a new beach!
I had to take the scissors away from myself a while back. I was destroying denim left and right haha. Well, I was getting the itch again. I found these perfect Paige Denim Jeans for $6 over the weekend (yes, $6!!!). I have a ton of plain skinny jeans, so I decided to try making some with a wider knee rip (they are being sold everywhere and add about 20% to the price tag haha)
The other bonus, is that these don’t have as much stretch as some of my others (only 2% lycra), so they are actually more comfy with the rips!
Maya would NOT finish this apple. “I’m just licking it…” 😉

And…I had to DIY distress another pair for Maya too 🙂
“RAWR!!!”
And then we looked off to the left and saw a path leading down to the beach. But even cooler, was that there were all these cairns leading down too!
I wasn’t planning on us playing on a rocky beach. These clogs probably weren’t the smartest choice, but they didn’t even phase her!

haha. This next shot totally looks like I’m pulling her hair. I promise, I’m just playing with it!
Attempting to make her own cairn 🙂

Taking a jumpsuit from day to night…
I’ve been a little hesitant on the jumpsuit craze. That is to say…I have bought a few (when I’ve found a crazy deal too good to pass up), but they just keep hanging in my closet. I always feel so dressed up in them. Isn’t that funny? A jumpsuit…too dressy??
Anyway, I decided to try and dress one down for day. It was SUPER comfy! I will admit…the whole going to the bathroom and stripping down (when as a mom you are NEVER alone/the door is always open) still weirds me out. So, I wore a little cami and problem solved!
And yes!!! I’m sleeveless in Seattle in FEBRUARY!! Omg, I didn’t even realize until I typed that… “Sleeveless in Seattle” hahaha. Good grief, I need some sleep…
Again, wasn’t so sure about the whole drop crotch craze either. I grew up in the MC Hammer era, and it wasn’t good then. BUT…it is pretty comfy, and hides if you’ve gained a few 😉

We took these pics on Valentine’s Day. We’ve had these shoes for a while. I almost DIED when I found them thrifting last APRIL for $4.25! I was SOOO hoping they’d still fit by Valentine’s Day, and they did!

Finally we ditched the jacket, because it was….too hot (seriously, say what?!?!)
Hahaha. Love how enthusiastically she blows bubbles 🙂

Then, I took off the cami, let down the rolled cuffs, added some fun heels, and did a super easy braided bun. I’d like to tell you that this outfit actually made it to “night” and went out, but no…just our sidewalk hahaha.
Looking at these pictures, I think I’d still keep the legs rolled if I were to do it again. It would probably highlight the cute heels more, and still look dressy. With the legs down (on my short legs), I think it looks a little frumpy.

On me…
Oh, that could be it. 🙂
SUNSHINE in Seattle!!
The great weather just keeps on coming. And I am NOT complaining!! I almost feel guilty about it seeing all the horrible cold weather in the Midwest and NorthEast…almost 😉
OMG, I love that I just caught her little head in the frame 🙂 And how’s that athletic stance, Dad? hahaha.
All my years of softball, volleyball, and weight lifting shining through in this picture! Frick at this age, I have to be careful not to throw out my back playing with Maya :{
And…the licking. Constantly the licking…
“Mommy, throw me up in the air like this!” and she backs into me and holds her hands up 🙂
DYING over this next one!! Excuse the bare belly…
Then our neighbor came out (who Maya LOVES), so we played with him.
I don’t even know where she got it, but doing a thumbs up is her new thing. SO cute!
Pop of color on the beach…
We’ve had some really nice days lately. Like into the 60’s nice, which is very rare for February in Seattle. The only downside is it’s off and on throughout the day… On our way down to the beach it was 53-hence the sweater and layers on Maya. Then, by the time we left (and I was a sweaty hot mess), it was 60. Can’t really complain though 🙂
I’m such a sucker for a fun back detail…
I didn’t mean for us to both wear this similar color. Obviously…because they are similar, but kind of clash when I’m holding her. Oh, well. 😉

And…she’s OFF! 🙂
You can hardly tell, but these have the most fun camo print!
Sea Lion!! Or…seal. Not really sure which. 🙂

She totally bit it after tossing that ginormous stick into the water…
Didn’t phase her though 🙂

On me…
And, not all our throws get captured perfectly haha. We tried about 5 times and kept catching them on the way down. Her hair here though-LOVE IT!! 🙂
Striped Top + Flared Denim
I’ve been feeling like I’m in a skinny jean rut. I also have been trying to clean out my closet. The one area that needs serious weeding out is my denim. I’m a self proclaimed denim addict! But in my defense, I end up scoring a lot of them for less than $10-$20 (usually 90-95%+ off retail price!). Still…how many pairs of denim does one girl need?
Don’t answer that!!!
Anywho. Whenever I weed through my denim, I inevitably come across old favorites, or even better pairs I totally forgot I even had! A lot of times those are the ones that I’ve been thinking “Oh, I wish I had a pair of…” So, I go shopping in my own closet and come up with gems! Hahaha…WIN!
These flares were one of those pairs.
Oh, and this top? I’ve been coveting it, ever since it came out about…a year ago? I was so excited when I found it recently at the Rack for $10!! I don’t care that everyone and their mother wore it to death. Most people have forgotten about that, I’m sure 🙂

😉

And…she’s back in the licking phase-good times 😉

DIY Ripped Denim, Vintage Clogs and Purse = Thrift Store Scores!
I actually took these a while ago during a random sunny (albeit WINDY AND COLD) day.
Ps- Can you spy the Space Needle? I had a hard time getting us both in the frame 😉
Do you have a pair of straight leg denim that you don’t know what to do with? It’s kind of a weird cut for me, BUT I often find them at the thrift stores for so cheap, so really…I have to, right?! I usually just cuff or roll them (my answer to just about every jean, since my legs are so short!), but I got this pair of ridiculously comfy 7FAM straight leg jeans for $7.50! I knew that I wouldn’t wear them as is, so, I cut off the hem to my favorite length (measured off a pair that I love), and then cut/distressed them a little. I’ve worn them SO many times now since!
Yeah, this is the self conscious laugh of someone who is taking pics with a tripod on a busy path with people walking by making comments (don’t mind me!!) 😉
ps-this entire outfit was $38! But…the most expensive part (the vintage clogs for $19), I got for “free” with a credit I had at my consignment store! Whoop whoop!
It LOOKS sunny and warm, but…it wasn’t. It was at our house, but when we got down to the water? Not so much. Maya had been in the car next to me eating her snack. When I got her out of the warm car, she had a bit of weather shock!
And then…she was ok. Seriously, doesn’t she look like a grandma on her way to the bus stop!?? hahahah 🙂
I really hadn’t planned on taking pics this day. She had gone to preschool in the morning, and it’s all about “comfort/what you don’t care about getting ruined” /what I can get ON her and out the door in 15-20 minutes. Let’s be honest, I still want her to be cute, but…what she goes to preschool in isn’t necessarily what I blog all the time. Mainly too, because once she’s gone to school, I don’t have time to take pics after/or it’s got paint/mud on it!

But get her near the beach, throwing rocks and sticks, and she’s happy. 🙂
On me…

No need to save “that” for a special occasion… ;)
I’m sure I’m not alone in saving things for “special occasions”. I bought these pants at the last Nordstrom Rack “Clear the Rack Sale”. I meant for them to be pants that I’d wear when I shoot weddings. Comfy, yet still dressy. Well, I decided not to wait! I rolled them up for a little more casual look, and I loved them!
And this jacket of Maya’s? She wore it for Christmas, and that’s it. I LOVE IT though, so I decided she could dress it down too 🙂

There was a tagger on the loose all over West Seattle. We actually saw some of this person’s work outside of our gym, which is a good 15 minutes away from this park.
I actually posted a picture of Maya imitating this face on a wall near our gym on my personal Instagram account. So funny!
Omg, could this dog be any cuter?? Not ours, but Maya loves and wants to pet every single dog she sees. “What’s his name?!”
And then the dancing began 🙂

All Black + Leather Pants and a Pop of Red…
Funny thing is…we weren’t going to have a fun outing this day. It was raining, Maya was sick, I hadn’t taken a shower. Then…the rain parted, Maya was on her lunch “high”, and I thought…well, why not?! What else are we going to do? The best part? This entire shoot lasted 10 minutes…and it’s one of my favs. We were going to keep running and playing, but Maya decided to run into the muddy stream and fell. She was still game to play, but I figured a wet muddy sick toddler needed to go home.
This is such an amazing little hidden park. You can pull up (I’m sure illegally) and park at the entrance. Maya can see me from her car seat. I can take pics. Then I grab her. Take a few with her, and then let her run wild. She loves it. I love it. It’s a WIN for us both! Oh, and it’s about 3 minutes from our house!
Before all the mud, while she was in the car finishing her snack…I took these really quick 😉
Yes, I managed to wait a few weeks before photographing these leather pants again.
LOVE THEM!!!
And yes, I wiped some mud off at the end of all this, and they are good as new-WIN!!

And…she’s OFF and RUNNING down the path!
Which she thinks is just about the funniest thing ever!
And then…she went exploring in the mud and slipped. It’s the number one reason I like to thrift most of her clothes. I might have had a heart attack had I paid retail for any of this, but I didn’t. And…it all washed out anyways…
Bottom line, can you deny that joyous face??!!
I’ll answer that with this one…NO!!! 😉
On me…
Nightgowns + Robes…I mean dresses + cardigans!
Basically, I felt like I was wearing a nightgown and my robe all day…which counts as a home run in my book (or touch down as the case may be lately- or not :{)
The Huz asked me why I was wearing a “sexy dress”. My answer? Because I felt chubby and didn’t want to wear anything tight. Basically, I felt anything but sexy, and that’s when he thought I looked sexy. It’s funny how differently men see us vs how we feel, no?
That awkward moment when cars drive by and they do a double take…
Yeah, I’m standing in front of my house taking my own picture…whatever. 😉
Maya always wants to get in my mouth when I’m chewing gum.
“When I get OLDER, I can chew gum!” 🙂
She has a mouthful of cracker here. She’s started saving her food in her mouth. Which wouldn’t be so bad (choking hazard aside!), but then she repeatedly spits it out into her hand, looks at it, then puts it back in her mouth-EW!! Not sure if she’s pretending it’s gum? Or taking to heart all the many times I’ve told her to slow down and actually chew her food. OR…she’s just being a toddler 😉
In any case, she thinks it’s hilarious.
Not as hilarious as running away from me. That’s pretty much her most favorite game to play!
