Faux Fur + Clogs…on the beach? WHY NOT!?

Ok, I’ll admit. This outfit might seem a bit out there. I was rummaging through my closet looking for something, and came upon this jacket that I thrifted about 2 years ago for…$3.50!!!! I mean, what the what!?! WHY don’t I wear this more often? It’s not only fun, but it’s ridiculously warm. Almost too much so on this day. And, it just adds such a fun element to a fairly simple outfit. Oh, and I got a compliment on it from a pretty hip mom while we were playing, so…there’s that! 🙂

All that to say. I keep forgetting about this jacket/thinking it’s too dressy and out there for me to wear more often, but then…why not?!! Why don’t we wear things that make us feel fun more often? I’ll be honest. I felt too self conscious to wear it to pre-school pick up, but WHY??? I think I might get my nerve up to do it later…maybe. 🙂 Life’s too short not to wear things that we WANT to wear because we are afraid of what other’s might think! Blog Vintage Faux Fur Jacket DL1961 Harper Sven Red Lacy Clogs-1 Ok…AND these jeans are actually from my favorite denim maker DL1961. Their 4 way stretch is any mama’s dream. Ok, it’s anyone’s dream. I’m wearing them in almost half my posts! They were having a ridiculous sale (extra 25% off sale price!), so I thought I’d introduce the Huz to a pair. Then…realized that Maya was outgrowing the pairs that she has, so…I bought a new size up for her. THEN, I realized that I could save $10 in shipping if I bought something else (am I the only one that does this??). Um…SOOOOO I took a chance and bought a pair of size 16 girls jeans for a steal. I’ve bought a few kids jeans from thrift stores in the past, and LOVED THEM!!! In my experience size 14-16 usually equals a 26-27 in women’s sizes, yet they are a FRACTION of the cost. Oh, and they are usually a higher rise, and a lower inseam (my legs are ridiculously short for my frame!) All that is a win for me! And, for anyone who is a size 27 or below! ESPECIALLY for those that are petite! I feel like they have to get so frustrated, and can only hope that most have thought to shop in the girls section without being embarrassed!! I say shop wherever you can find things that fit and make you feel good! Keeping it Real…

Ok, so I really didn’t know where we were going when we headed out. It had been raining early on in the day, but then got somewhat sunny after Maya got out from school. Honestly living near the beach, you never know what you are going to get. It can be one way up above a few blocks, and then you never know what the tide or wind will be like once you get down there! I knew that I didn’t want to go to a sandy beach, but thought we’d go to the far end of the beach which has really wide concrete paths you can walk along. I thought I’d let Maya jump in mud puddles for fun. And then…we saw that the tide was out, and it was all over. She was off and running for the stairs down the beach in a nano second! Thankfully these clogs have a bendable base, are easly to walk in even on rocks, and are ridiculously comfortable. BUT…I looked like a clase A freak, so…whatever. 😉 Thankfully, it was still pretty cold and not many people go to this end of the beach. No judgement, except from the hip mom who liked my jacket 😉 Blog Outtake

Stripes + Overalls + Clogs

I have to be honest. I wondered if I was dressing below my age group. When you are over 40, you have to think of these things (GRRRR). I looooove overalls, on any age, so in reality, I don’t really care haha. Honestly, when an outfit is this ridiculously comfortable, you wear it.

All that said, I got a lot of thumbs up from the other moms at preschool drop off, so….I decided to take pics after school 🙂 So…every once in a while, Maya is not in the mood to play and take pics. On this day…she was NOT in the mood. OBVIOUSLY! I can’t help it. This still make me laugh. Sorry, I’m that mom. 😉 So, we left and went home.Oh, but wait. Right in front of our house, she’s happy as a clam? Ok…I think I’ve talked about this before, but Maya has absolutely graduated from the time when I can pick out her outfits (insert sobs from me!!)

Our morning usually consists of me showing her what I want her to wear.

Her saying “Nah…” To just about everything I suggest.

Me trying 3-87 (ok slightly kiddding) other options until she finally likes something (it is often something she’s said “NO!” to 5 other times before this!),and then me getting to pick the shoes and jacket (sometimes)

I’ve suggested this dress about a dozen times, and always got a “Naaaah.” Then she randomly picked it out this day.Seriously? I want to eat her up! On me…

It’s officially weird how amazing our weather has been here in Seattle. I’m not complaining though! Funny thing about this kimono. I love it, and yet I rarely wear it! I think this is the 2nd time I’ve worn it and I’ve had it for…2-3 years?? I was prompted by the Coast2Coast Central weekly challenge “Bloom like Yellow”. I love when I get inspired to wear things I haven’t worn in forever/never wear. These dance moves… 🙂On me…

In other news. She’s started referring to herself as “Maya the Kid”, and frequently uses it in the 3rd person. “Maya the Kid is still a little hungry…” ha! AND…about 50% of the time, she calls me Lauren vs Mom. So weird. Especially since rarely am I called that in front of her! The Huz calls me Wife, my dad calls me Beez (wonder when she’ll notice that!) The boys…rarely say my name?? Anywho, funny.

DIY Destroyed Denim…and we found a new beach!

I had to take the scissors away from myself a while back. I was destroying denim left and right haha. Well, I was getting the itch again. I found these perfect Paige Denim Jeans for $6 over the weekend (yes, $6!!!). I have a ton of plain skinny jeans, so I decided to try making some with a wider knee rip (they are being sold everywhere and add about 20% to the price tag haha)The other bonus, is that these don’t have as much stretch as some of my others (only 2% lycra), so they are actually more comfy with the rips! Maya would NOT finish this apple. “I’m just licking it…” 😉 And…I had to DIY distress another pair for Maya too 🙂“RAWR!!!”And then we looked off to the left and saw a path leading down to the beach. But even cooler, was that there were all these cairns leading down too! I wasn’t planning on us playing on a rocky beach. These clogs probably weren’t the smartest choice, but they didn’t even phase her! haha. This next shot totally looks like I’m pulling her hair. I promise, I’m just playing with it!Attempting to make her own cairn 🙂On me…

We are in clog heaven…

We had a completely random 60 degree day on Monday. It was SO NICE!!! Sadly, our day was jam packed, and we only had 30 minutes to play outside and take some pictures… ;{ Can we talk about how freaking adorable these clogs are??!! And what’s even better? They are totally comfortable! Clogs really are the best mom shoe! They allow you to wear a little bit of a heel, yet your feet don’t hurt and you can still ~~chase~~ play with your kids 😉 And they look adorable too-bonus!!

I was contacted by Sven Clogs after we posted and tagged them in a few shots on Instagram from the post I did a few weeks ago. She said she loved the pictures and wanted to send Maya and me some clogs as a thank you. WHAAAT??!! I couldn’t believe it!!! I went to their site, and fell into the rabbit hole of cute clogs. The attention to detail is beyond gorgeous. I got the medium height ones with the bendable base, which is what makes them so incredibly comfortable. The vintage clogs I wore in the other post are ridiculously cute (you will see me in them again next week…), but I have to admit…the wooden base isn’t as comfy as these are. I have to kick them off the minute I walk in the door, unlike these. I wore them all day! Haha. Peace out!

Or…possibly reprimanding me. She has become the total manners police. It’s kind of funny. “Mommy, that’s not good manners!” or “Mommy, you said a bad word!” Now, I’ll be the first to admit that I have…well, I like to curse. BUT…I really try very hard not to in front of the kids. So, if I say “Shut up!” in an Elaine way, not a mean way, Maya still says that’s bad manners 🙂 And I’m dying over Maya’s! SHE loves them too! She wanted to wear them the minute we took them out of the box, and was so excited when I said we were going to wear them this day.Oh, and I’d like to take a moment to thank that ship for being perfectly coordinated with our outfits hahaha. 🙂Every time we come to this park, Maya loves to get on top of this little ledge and jump off over and over and over. I was a liiiiittle nervous about her jumping with clogs. I wasn’t sure if she would twist her ankle with the little bit of heel it has. I was trying to talk her down and say that maybe it wasn’t a good idea to jump. All I got was a “Shhhhhh”

No idea where she gets it… 😉And so she jumped!And she didn’t twist her ankle. So, she jumped again, and again, and again.And then…it was time to go pick up her brother.On me…

Since we only had a limited time, I was kind of rushed and didn’t have time to really check what pictures I was getting. There was also a guy at the end of the pier with us, and that always makes me feel like a big nerd. ANYWHO, can I just say how sad I was when I got home and realized I totally messed up the focus on this shot? There were a bunch of cute ones that we took that were all this fuzzy. BOO!!! 😦

A HUGE thank you to Sven Clogs! We are beyond grateful, and we LOVE THEM!! All that said…generous gift aside. All my views on them are totally genuine and have nothing to do with the fact that they were given to us. If they were horribly uncomfortable, I would have just kept my mouth shut and said thank you 😉
